Eh, it was explained by myself and 5 or 6 other people in that other thread why SOE is the worst MMORPG developer/publisher in the history of the genre. I don't see why you continue to support them.

That being said, whatever has happened in EQ2 since I quit last, it's become a pretty decent game. Like, World of Warcraft, if the game was more difficult.
And it's only getting better, they're removing the "I don't really know what class I want to play yet, wah" part of the game from levels 1 to 19, and allowing you to pick your final class at character creation. They're also revamping the newbie areas (specializing them for race) and revamping the newbie island (changing the island to be unique for Freeport and Qeynos).
It's like they've figured out why people don't like the game, and are trying to change the stuff that people don't like. Now if they could only not have rushed expansion packs like they had in EQ1, where the expansion pack says it will have so-and-so content, and will actually be missing some of that promised content for a while.

Edit: I have one big complaint though: EQ2's art team doesn't know how to fucking make realistic bird models. They all look like plastic figures with flapping wings.
They did manage to figure out how to copy DAoC's flying mobs though.

I honestly don't know. I put the game in, installed, and it worked.

Check your ram timings anyways, EQ2 may be taxing your system just enough for them to cause a problem.
RAM errors are the the most common (and likely) reason for a computer to just go 'SCREW YOU I REBOOT NOW'. Other errors will just crash the game or maybe just give you a BSOD.
OH! On that note, you can disable your computers automatic rebooting, which I reccomend. It will give you a BSOD instead which you can use to diagnose your problem.
Rightclick on My Computer, hit properties, then go to the Advanced tab. Click on Startup and Recovery. Make sure the 'Automatically restart' button is unchecked. Viola! Next computer malf should give you a BSOD

Look...I understand SOE apparently popped your onling gaming cherry. I know that, in Mort's case in particular, it then proceeded to whore his heart out to slimy, dickless morons.
...nonetheless, I've never had this mysterious "crash bug" issue with EQ2. The only hardware issue I had tied to EQ2 was, as I recall, tied to a bad motherboard and it crashed with other games. I've never had any real problem with EQ2. Even the vaunted "memory leak" issue" doesn't seem to really happen to me.
I cannot believe I got the one non-botched copy of EQ2 out there.

Because I play the game every single day and I've experienced it on multiple characters for over a year now. It's a solid game and I enjoy it, so I continue to play it.
I fell off playing SWG before the NGE because it got boring. I don't play Diablo II anymore really because it got boring. EQ2 still holds my interest, and I poke my head into EQ now and then.
Now, when was the last time you logged into EQ2 that makes you such an expert on how much it sucks and how awful it plays?

I don't care for SOE too much either, as they have a bad habit of doing stupid stuff to their games. On the other hand, just because a company prefers whoring out money rather than making a good game doesn't mean I'm going to boycott any good games they happen to make.

You should see the TV ads they have running here in the states. One of the lines is "Even advance to the level of Jedi!" .. by clicking a button at character creation. It's like trying to hype a movie everybody knows sucks.
