thats fairly accurate. You either run around and get missions from your various contacts, which advance the story lines and open up new contacts...
or you wander around town and the hot spots, saving innocent bystanders and what not.
Combat is pretty straight forward. Target mob and have your way with em. There is no auto-attacking, so you pretty much have to stay on it the entire time. Different skills and powers have different recharge times, so you have to gauge when to use em. a la Anarchy Online. For example, my blaster char:
Opens up with a long range energy bolt. Waits for the enemy to advance while the bolt is recharging. Lay into em with a force punch to knock em up and back, flat on their asses. By that time the bolt is recharged. Rip into em with the bolt while their still down. Splat.
Character generation alone will take you about 30-45 minutes if not more.
5 minutes to select your powers... the other 45 to design your costume 
As for the original topic of the thread: I've seen a very convincing Omega Red, Agent Smith, Duke Nukem, Guyver and Spongebob Squarepants (Duke is mine) So many combinations, you can duplicate the look of almost any super hero.
