As some of you know, I managed to get into the WoW beta and am about 10 minutes away from completing the download -- finally. There is no NDA, so I can talk about it all I want, I just cannot share my account.
In that respect, I will use this thread to post thought-provoking or 'pretty' screen shots that I come across, as well as post insights and information based on my experiences therein. Hopefully, through me, it'll be almost like you're there, minus the fun and immersiveness stuff, etcetc.
Anyway, keep an eye on this thread! Maybe it'll even get stickied at some point!
Other than that: Thanks!
Folks like Delid are going to get this game, Beta or no. But what about me? I am indifferent to MMOGs in general! I therefore call upon you, Bajah, to use this thread to sway me and others of similar mindsets about MMOGs. Post the most beautiful, stunning screenshots you can, share stories of your triumphs, and explore as much as you can the richness of this game! Let us see how many people will be swayed by Bajah's posts!

From the book of JooJooFlop, chapter 3, verse 16:
I'm mostly interested in how the game mechanics work. What exactly all the classes are capable of, how they intereact and how the various mobs (damned if I'm gonna call them creeps) function. Stuff like that.
One thing has been made abundantly clear from everything I've read, no support classes. Priests were, in the early alpha, support classes, so Blizzard beefed them up on par with everyone else so they can solo just fine. Now they can play support, but are more than able to kick ass on their own solo.

And don't worry, there's no such thing as "downtime" over 20 seconds in this game.

Black, get on AIM and convince me I don't need this beta.
Get on IRC and do it instead.

But if you post negative stuff, I'll maim you.
Will I be able to make a Night Elf with a nifty green goatee?

I was pretty sure that Hunters and Rogues got dual wield. Warriors don't.
BUT CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BETA SNOBS!

I alone love Ruvyen. I alone tempt Ruvyen:

Shields give you more AC, more stats, the ability to block (no shield = no % to block attacks), and I believe you HAVE to have one equiped to use the warrior's defensive stance. (Which is the only stance w/ taunt.) Though I'm not sure because it's not often I put down my trusty shield.
And this is all GOOD stuff because, as a warrior, you WILL be tanking. [ 03-19-2004: Message edited by: Black ]

If I've read my information correctly, anyone can learn to, they just won't be as good at is as Hunters and Rogues.

I never saw Dual Wield as a Warrior on ANY of the trainers at ANY level.
First thing I saw when I logged in. Tips and scenery.
Sent to meet the Marshall, it auto-saluted him and another quest!
I spot my first corpse, even though I killed nothing. And a dead player is glowing. Poor bastard.
Special Abilities page... also tells you what they do, etc.
Same thing here, except for spells. I told you some of these were boring.
This screen keeps you updated on the progress of your abilities... I think.
DING! I missed the graphic on the level up, though Nice big showy thing similar to FFXI.
More running around, new quest, yadda yadda.
Unlike EQ or DAoC, running through campfires = bad mojo.
Sparklies and a salute when you spend TPs!
Questy thing, choose a prize, get xp and shit. You get the idea, dunno why I took so many of these.
Spent a skill point on stealth and demonstrated it. Very good looking.
Took an overlooking scenery picture for those of you wanting scenery.
Priests are soloing monsters I felt like a bowler with my dwarf, though. SMITE!
Now, as I said, this is just the beginning.. still so much to do and stuff I just can't do yet. Bear with

Heh, I looked at that and saw a barrel that had tipped over and crushed a poor Kobold on the right there
Specifically, I would like to know how one goes about learning Talents, Skills and so forth, and how they improve (do they improve with combat? With constant use?) I'm kind of interested in what Street Fighting and Assassination are...

Enough moping! Bajah, you must discuss what skills/spells/etc. you have found!Specifically, I would like to know how one goes about learning Talents, Skills and so forth, and how they improve (do they improve with combat? Everyone seems to have the same basic 'talents' they can learn, as you can see in the screen caps. Such as 'increase defense by 1' etc. Then there's things like weapon skills such as '2h maces' etc to increase damage of those weapontypes etc.
Skills are interesting. You get one skill point per level (so far) and you can spend them on class abilities of all types by visiting your class trainer -- I got Divine Aura for my Paladin and Stealth for my Rogue.
As you use abilities/skills/attacks/spells, their skills go up. For example, using combo building attacks with the rogue develops Street Fighting and using the Finishers develops Assassination. Using Holy Might attacks with the Paladin increases Holy Magic ability, etc.
It's like EQ in that respect, I think, but with a lot more variety that I can see so far. My Pally has about 3 Skill Points right now but everything is marked as 'unavailable' still when I visit my trainer.
quote:All red skills/unavailable skills have their preresequites clearly marked, btw.
I took Bajah out, it was a Friday night. I wore cologne to get the feeling right.

Hm, I didn't really investigate them.. was busy exploring, seeing the sites, etc. I think the server died, though

Red skills will list what you don't have in red text. Don't blame you for not seeing that though. I didn't myself, until I got my fill of exploring done.
Also this batch has lots of scenery shots and cool things I found.
Some people need to be told how to do their job...
Herbalism supplies are just lying around, waiting to be found.
My first trade skill. This also reminded me of SWG.
A moon well... good place to relieve yourself. FOR THE HORDE!
Again, reminds me of SWG.. you can sit in chairs, etc. An example....
I call this one "Praise the Lord!"
Mapping system. The green dot is my current location, etc.
Found a weapons merchant with a cool looking weapon... only to be offered NOTHING! DAMN WOMEN!
