I heard that if the election were held now, Kerry would get 52%, Bush would get 43%, and the other 5% would go to Kagrama or some such. This tells us two things:

1. Kagrama in '04!

2. People pull all sorts of numbers out of their asses and the only way to be sure who will win will be on election day.

Yeah, there are many polls that say many different things, but most of them recently have had Kerry beating Bush if the election were held today.

Of course, Bush doesn't need a majority of votes to win anyhow

Last weeks polls show Bush would win by about 5 points if the elections were held today. it seems to seesaw a bit but Bush usually stays on top. Once the campaigns get into full swing it is expected that Bush will pull ahead when people are reminded of 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Economy.

It depends on who you ask, and when.

And considering all the voters who woul dhave voted for dean now have to find another alternative...

These polls were taken Feb. 2nd.

There were no polls taken last week.

And remember that polls are not that accurate. You are asking 1000 or so people to try to give the opinion of the whole country. It doesn't matter which side you are on you have to keep that in mind.

Back on topic, hopefully Dean's core supporters will retain their motivation and involvement and transfer it onto a new candidate (Kerry or Edwards). Many of Dean's supporters were young people and others who were not very involved in politics previously.

If Dean had one good thing going for him, it was motivating previously unpolitical people. He raised a load of money through $50-$100 contributions from people who had nevewr contributed to a political campaign before.

Actually, some of those same bullet points might be able to be used as ammunition AGAINST Bush, depending on your point of view.

Personally, I believe the race between Kerry and Bush is just too close to call right now, and too many things could happen between now and the election to cause either Bush or Kerry to become more or less popular.

Dean should've given up a long time ago.

Regardless of the actual Presidential election, Dean lost any chance of beating Kerry for the nomination awhile ago, with Kerry at like 588 delegates, Dean at about 178 and Edwards at 175...

Once someone wins a couple of states, everyone else is more inclined to vote for that person, because people will vote for a winner.

What I still love is how most of the Press, before the first elections, saying Dean was guaranteed to win big, and the rest of the Democrats should drop out, when, once we got to the actual primaries, Dean has not won a single race.

here is the current thinking though.. Bush will probably get every state he got last time. At most he will lose a couple. And this year there is a chance of him getting NY. If he gets NY then he will have two of the top 3 states in his corner. With Arnold in Cali, Bush even stands a bit of a chance there. If he was to somehow get all Three of the big states then You don't even need to bother with the rest of the country.

But you have to remember that most people from California are batshit insane, so they're just as likely to vote for a communist or Bill Bradsky as they are Bush or Kerry.

It doesn't really seem all that strange, and is somewhat typical. As I've understood it, when given a budget the relative top priorities of republicans and democrats are:

Republican: Tax Cuts (Which can help everyone, and possibly the economy), and Defense spending.

Democrat: Social programs (welfare, SS, Medicare, etc; which tend to help the lower class in particular.)

So it seems pretty understandable that the lower class would lean towards programs that place more emphasis on themselves, human nature there.

Obviously that's huge oversimplification of both parties, all those issues are on every politician's radar, and each tries to work everything in. But that's always been the impression I've gotten of both, feel free to call me on it if I'm misrepresenting something there.

(And note, my personal economic policy would be "pay off that damn debt!", so I'm not a huge fan of either, though recent track record leans me *slightly* towards the democrat on that issue. I won't even get into my hatred of both parties' treatment of ethics and morality (the democratic uber-Political correctness and "protect the children from offensive things", and the republican uber-christian moral "protect our children from immoral things!")

The problem with it is that it is only a punishment if you are poor. If your parents can pay for college then it doesn't affect you. Also, it would be more reasonable if it was in regards to dealing drugs exclusivly.

Poor kids (any kids) who expirement with drugs once or twice and get caught should be punished. They should be fined and forced to take rehab and be on probation, maybe. However, Making it impossible or extreemly difficult for them to get an education and better themselves is just stupid.

You would think Bush would be more compassionate considering he more than likely has taken cocaine. (He refuses to make a comment on whether he has or not).
