The problem with it is that it is only a punishment if you are poor. If your parents can pay for college then it doesn't affect you. Also, it would be more reasonable if it was in regards to dealing drugs exclusivly.Poor kids (any kids) who expirement with drugs once or twice and get caught should be punished. They should be fined and forced to take rehab and be on probation, maybe. However, Making it impossible or extreemly difficult for them to get an education and better themselves is just stupid.
You would think Bush would be more compassionate considering he more than likely has taken cocaine. (He refuses to make a comment on whether he has or not).
The problem with that is we just end up spending more money on someone who, at the rate they are going, will not add up to crap for society. You want to go to college and your folks can't pay for it? Get strait A's apply, for scholarships from private individuals and corporations, and probably get a little bit of money from the school while your at it.
Being poor dosn't mean your destined to fail, it just means you need to work a little harder.

If someone has tried drugs it does not mean they will add up to crap in society. That does not compute. Look at our current president and former president.
You don't have to currently be on drugs to be denied the money, either. You could have only tried it once and somehow gotten caught, or have gone through rehab and are now clean. You are still punished by this.

Government money is not the only way to pay for college. I listed several other ways to get money in my previous post. There is also that whole thing called working and earning enough money to pay for college.
Of course there are other ways, though the only one you mentioned that is a "sure thing" is working. However, my point is that this only punishes poor kids, not rich kids. I originally brought it up sarcastically when Joojooflop asked how Bush helped the lower class.

No, a guy who can only yell real loud and scream can't be president, but the person who removed on eof the biggest terrorist-dictators from power can.

Zair had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
Well, he also made it so poor kids who have any kind of drug charge on their record are not able to recieve any federal college grants, thus preventing them from being able to go to college.I guess that is helping them by teaching them a lesson.
1: There is always a loophole or two. For example, go to a drug rehab. Get a waiver and join the military. Just don't be a dumbass and get hit on the piss test when you first arrive in boot. (It has been along time. I don't know if the military accepts ex-druggies into the fold anymore). It's not the end of the world for them.
2: Most of the stoners I knew when I was in high school, did not give a fuck about college. Remember I said "most" not "all".
My brain hurtz, I sleep now.

I like Edwards a lot. I don't think the Republican or Democratic parties have all the answers, so I tend to vote following what I feel is right at the time. I hope Edwards isn't discouraged by this election if he ends up the presidential or vice-presidential nominee. He's actually a good man (go figure).
Funny, I thought he was one of the most powerful class-action trial lawyers in the country. You know, the ones that get tens of millions in class action settlements, pocket most of it, then send you a check for ten cents? I also thought he got most of his funding from other trial lawyers who took a break from their Gulfstreams to throw him some money.
Was I wrong about that? If I was, maybe he is a good man.

...Shall I continue?
So he did a lot of class action stuff. Yes I dislike that. I still think he's a good Democratic choice. Better than most of the would-be democratic nominees.

I would agree he may be a good candidate, but you said he was a good man. There are very, very few trial lawyers who are good men. I was only addressing that point. To say "other poeple made money too" doesn't really answer that question.

Bush made money from the Rangers. The Texas Rangers for god sakes. It takes a genius to pull that one off.

Ah okay. I see your point. Perhaps my choice of wording was inaccurate.
