I've been looking at the reviews over at Rottentomatoes.com
Not a bad review yet! Looks like this is going to be the crowning achievement of the series..like it was meant to be.
I just started getting this flu bastard today so that's good too [ 12-16-2003: Message edited by: Kalculus Kid or Mathinator or Waisz ]

I'll wait to hear the most scathing reviews once it hits the mass market before making any happy suppositions.

Consume excess caffeine and have to piss like a racehorse in the middle of the movie.
Bad idea.

Yeah. Remember, no matter how insanely cool the battle scenes are... LEAVE THE MOVIE FIRST.
Your fellow movie-goers will thank you.
Now I'm all hyped up. Ha. I'm going either tonight or tomorrow. I'm excited.

I am going to see this movie tomorrow.

Yes. No. Not really. Maybe. I'm not telling.
Frodo got his hand cut off, found out the Saurman's his father, Legolas got frozen in carbonite, and taken away by Gollum!! [ 12-17-2003: Message edited by: Xyrra ]
I seriously doubt that ill see it until the weekend, but i'll try and see it soon... Exams thursday and friday, unfortunately.
If the sound didn't start fucking up at the end of the last battle of the last movie I would be able to give it a more fair review. Other than that it was pretty badass.
also gave me a view on human nature... packed crowded theater... they left the lights on during the first movie everyone was complaining but no one actully did anything about it until one of my friends got out of his seat and talked to someone to fix it. Guess it goes to show that whole crowd mentality thing - assuming someone else will do something for you if there are tons of people around. we were all the way in the back. had to go to the bottom floor at the front of the theater than all the way back again to talk to someone so it'd get fixed. the people who were close just stood there and whined to themselves.... i donno, maybe i should just not post half-asleep, but it was intersting
sleepy time.. worky in a few hours
thanks for not ruining it ^_^
The rest of this post will be inside spoiler text.
Aragorn does not get Anduril until THIS movie, from Elrond himself, no less. He gets it hand-delivered by the noble elf while in the encampment of Rohan, before setting off into the Paths of the Dead. That really bugged me, though I could understand the dramaticism they put behind it. The completely left out the 'Mouth of Sauron' from the Black Gates and the presenting of Frodo's mithril shirt. The just got surrounded and then charged the enemies with a 'For Frodo.' Eh. Oh well. Extended Edition, I suppose. Yeah, no Saruman. At all. Pippin just happened to see a glow in the water around Orthanc and investigated to find the Palantir just sitting there. How it got there? No explanation. Oh well. More Extended Edition. Denethor's Palantir is NEVER mentioned or explained.. he just goes slowly insane with no explanation. Frodo and Sam get attacked by Gollum on the way up the side of Mount Doom. Shrug. They fight him off and throw him over a cliff. He comes back, though, as expected. Gollum turns Frodo against Sam for awhile and Sam is left behind, only to arrive just in time to fight off Shelob. Sam never got left behind Biggest change overall, though, is when Aragorn arrives in the ships from the south, he has all the dead warriors with him. I truly approve of this change, however, due to the simple fact that Tolkien never really expounded on the dead soldiers. He went through all the detail and trouble of chaptering the Paths of the Dead only to have it followed up with "Yeah, Aragorn and the dead soldiers got the boats and now Aragorn shows up with live soldiers from the coast in the boats after releasing the dead from their oath." I really wanted to see something out of the dead and the movie does that for me.
Okay, so I am leaving some outside of the spoiler text. Listed above are the major changes. That said, I loved the movie.
Eowyn's fight with the Witch King was wonderful Easily one of my favorite parts.
Oh, and for Drysart: Legolas managed to outdo his horse-mounting trick AND his shield-surfing tricks from Two Towers all in the span of about 5 minutes.
Wow.

Oh, and Witch King needed more screentime.
I would say that even if he had more screentime. I just really like him. He's nifty.
My only complaint was we got there a bit late and got nosebleed seats.. then this old guy and his old lady sat in front of us and well.. we had an even harder time seeing the screen.. probably gonna have to go see it again later on after the hullabaloo dies down just to get a proper screening. Regardless it was a once in a lifetime experience for me. =) Was very happy to share that with KaL.. a childhood fantasy .. my imagination.. come to life on the silver screen. Totally worth every single penny spent.. worth every single moment spent.. regardless of stupid old people. ;D
although the end just kept going and going. I was ready to get up and leave 3 or 4 times.

KaLourin painfully thought these words up:
I laughed... everytime the screen faded out, people started clapping. Then the scene would fade back in, and everyone who didn't clap.. laughed at those that did.
Yeah, after the second time it did this, someone yelled "END THE DAMN MOVIE ALREADY", and everyone laughed.
I went to see it with both my brothers, it was awesome.
It was a great movie. I don't know that I can do it justice in my tired state.

with those distractions I jsut picked up my gear and moved... over all a enjoyable experinece

This one time, at Snoota camp:
the movie version of return of the king SUCKED big time it was the most worthless piece of shit i have ever seen in my life and tolkein is turning in his grave right now i cant believe what jackson did to the books i mean for example in frame 48490 frodo trips over a rock while climbing a cliff face when in the book he didnt trip and then later in frame 894819 aragorn killed this orc when in the book legolas killed an orc at that part
OMG! Shut up Snoota! u sux! ^.^
<hands Snoota a cookie>
in frame 67986 you see frodo is wearing bunny slippers now in the book he never wore those...
And Jackson stayed true to the ending. Bravo. Half the theater was bawling.

Faithful or no, that was the best goddamned part of the trilogy by far. By far. I think I spent about 75% of the movie almost in tears at how utterly awesome it was.
And oddly, no one in my theater mistook the continuous endings; one guy said "is that the end?" after the coronation at Gondor, but there was no misplaced applause etc.
RotK on an iMax screen up close=love.
The parody is already brewing in my head.
