I propose this: Tell your favorite movie, and then tell about any part of the movie that made you cry, made you laugh until your sides hurt, or just made you nod your head in smug recognition of humanity's flaws, or if you choose, because of the sheer stupidity of how the scene was done. It can be a comedy, action, drama, love story, whatever. Hell, I'm sure at least one of you will talk about a porno.
Anyway, my favorite movie of all time is Schindler's List. I saw it for the first time when I was about 15 years old. My mother and I had just gone to the video store and I saw it on the rack. It looked interesting so I snuck it in with her rentals. After watching it for the first time, I was move to tears. I cried. Just seeing how the Jewish people were treated by their own species made me so angry and so sorrowful at the same time, which is what I think Spielburg set out to do.
As for my favorite part of the movie...I would have to say that it is the part when the Nazis are cleaning out the ghettos at night and all the Jews are hiding in walls, beds, ceilings, floors and even under tables and in pianos. I remember this one part distinctly. While Nazis were raiding the ghetto house and killing Jews, this one soldier sat down at a piano and began to play a piece from Bach's English Suite II (A VERY beautiful piece if you ever get to hear it). And these two or three other soldier were behind him listening while gunfire was going off all around them, arguing over the composer, totally oblivious to all the suffering and death going on around them.
So that's my favorite movie and it's most distinctive scene. What's yours?
There are too many good scenes to choose from.
John Cusack as Rob Gordon.
That's all I need to say.
The scene where everyone sings Tiny Dancer on the tour bus.
Tommy Boy
Fav Scene: The room service bit where Richard is at the door and Tommy is still sleeping

Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite. - John Kenneth Galbraith
I cried at more than one point in this movie.. Especially the end.
The man has just remembered a very harsh time in his life. A lot of people died so he could go home. He was just a man. No different than they were. Yet they gave everything so he could survive and go home..
He looks at his wife, and with tears in his eyes he says. "Tell me I have lived a good life".
He wanted to make sure that thier sacrifice had been worth something. He needed to know. [ 11-16-2003: Message edited by: Azizza ]
Anyway...people will hate me for it, but: Vanilla Sky. The ending...and the middle. I don't want to go into it more because nobody actually cares. I'm the only person who liked the movie as much as I did.

Band of Brothers.
Watch the last episode where they intervied some of those still alive.
One of them recounted a time his grandson asked him if he had been a Hero in the war. This man who almost had to man ribbons and commendation to fit on his jacket simply replied "No. But I knew a lot of them"
I had been ok up till that point. Toched but holding it together. But when that was said my eyes got blurry and I actually had to turn away. Men such as that should never die. They should live as beacons for the rest of us to follow. They should never fade from our memory. We should remember them from now till the end. And seeing him on the screen made me feel almost small.

You never even told me you watched Vanilla Sky, you fubblermuffin.

I so did. I was all, "hay ryan, you were right about that movie!"
...Ithink...

I unno. Wouldn't say that about that guy who's making something of himself, getting ready to earn his GED and then...just because he knows something the warden doesn't want him to...he gets shot.
Aside from that, I'd like to say that the preview thingy is very good at what it does.

It gives away the end, so if you don't want it spoiled...
It's hard to explain why this scene is so powerful without summarizing the whole movie, but here goes the short, short version.
The giant was built to be a superweapon. However, after recovering from "mechanical amnesia," he is horrified by this fact because he is learning the sanctity of life. Though distraught, the Giant is comforted by his human friend's words: "You are not a 'gun.' You are who you choose to be."
Eventually, the military become convinced that the Giant is a serious threat to the US. An attack against him ultimately leads to the accidental firing of a nuclear missle against him... while he's standing in the middle of town.
This chain of events is a little complicated; better to watch the movie than hear me explain.
The Giant says goodbye to his friend and flies into orbit to meet the missle. He recalls the kid's words, "You are who you choose to be; now choose."
Just before the end, the Giant replies aloud: "Superman."
That scene tears me up. I really can't do it justice here; the whole movie basically works towards that one event.
My favorite part is the scene where they find Daisy, right after she's slit her wrists and hanged herself, and Winona Ryder is doing the voiceover: "Seeing death, really seeing it... makes dreaming about it fucking ridiculous."
And of course, the part where Janet has a meltdown and tells the instructor, "I'm a fucking shrub, alright?!" [ 11-17-2003: Message edited by: Monica ]

spFritz was just a soldier who was shot by a fairy. His partner got all freaked out and was like "Fritz! They killed Fritz! *goes on a shooting frenzy* Those horrible little monsters! Those miserable little fairies! *Fritz stands up behind him* Hey hey, it's ok! I'm ok, I'm not hurt man. Berserker guy: Oh Damn! There you go again raining on my parade and costing me medals! Oh DAMN! *"accidentally" fires his gun and shoots Fritz* Fritz! For god's sake Fritz get up! They killed Fritz!
