I took Shaolin Kung Fu from this guy for awhile, and I'm not so sure about going back.

He's the frickin senior master who never lets anyone off easy, and if he sees one drop of potential he'll bark at you like a marine drill instructor.. so I'm told at least.

Well, from what I've read, it looks pretty authentic, aside from that lil black sash thing, but I suppose it keeps the parents happy if he's teaching youths

The belt crap was more of a way to say, "Here ya go you've learned #-- to #-- forms or and techniques and styles, enjoy."

You had to take EXTRA classes to even attempt some of the rare forms offered (Mantis, Sword Forms, and other weapons)

Edit: EXTRA

I think I speak for several people when I say, "If you play a mass of fighting games, then you think you know martial arts...but you really don't."

It's an illusionary state where you think you are cool and badass, when truly you just look like the fag star wars kid.

Even I have succumbed to this level of ignorance. But now I have seen the light and wish to inform others of this terrible misconsumption that they may make on themselves.

I'm sure you are perfect and have never done something remotely similar. Hell, said kid got 3500 dollars through an internet fundraiser because of the embarassment of this.

And a couple notes:

1) Fag should not be used to mean "Bad" around here. Its not nice.

2) That was way off topic.

I still dont understand what the hell your point was, in respect to this thread which involved people posting what Martial Arts they participated in (And yes, they are real martial arts too)

Are you trying to say that Martial Arts training is ignorant, as you dont actually know how to fight?

Your problem is that you think everyone in the world thinks the only reason to do martial arts is video games/movies/TV. Really, anyone that sticks with it seriously isn't that type of person. Becoming good at it is a LOT of hard work, but seems to be quite rewarding. I can't personally say, but I don't think there would be so many people still in it if it wasn't fun.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

my martial arts training has been fairly informal, but I've learned the basics.

1) Don't start shit. it's easier to not start shit than to get involved.
2) if things start happening, run yer little ass off, because it's easier that way.
3) if you have to fight, win.

yup, that's the basics. Try to avoid it, but if you can't, it's better to be the guy that won.
