its pronouced as Cap-why-eta so you maybe you spelled it right or not, dunno.
Consider that i got it off a variety of brazilian martial arts webpages... i think it's safe to say I spelled it correctly
I have commitment issues, the only thing I've ever wanted to rearly stick with was fencing, and I got kicked out of that for almost killing my insturctor.

Aikido is the martial art that the samurai used. It dates back to 800 AD. You learn to use the Bokken (Sword), Jo (Staff), Tanto (Knife).
Wut.
I took "Taekwondo" for three years.

So I went to Kenpo, couldn't be happier (Unless I started doing full judo/Jiu-jitsu, which I may do once I get my blackbelt)

I was a better fighter because of Taekwondo, but only because of the hapkido and one/three-step sparring techniques. In sparring I used to beat the hell out of people but that doesn't really count as fighting. Supposedly, I wasn't even "sparring" correctly. "Too many punches," or "too wide a stance."
That's what you get for your 100 fist horse stance. (I made that up. Aren't I clever)
I was under the impression that Tae-Kwon-Do was all about the ridiculous kicks and what not.

Eh
Im sorry I insult, because I was never any good at them.
The flashiest kick I can do is probably a spinning hook, or a spinning side, or spinning back, and I only ever use these for the huge power behind them =\
I just went there to hit stuff, and I got better at it
My flashiest kick is a 540 inside crescent (turn a 540 in the air and hit with the inside of the foot, landing on it) or flash kick. (Backflip and front kick combined) [ 06-17-2003: Message edited by: Fazum'Zen Fastfist ]

Oh, I also took Tae-Kwan-do for 2 years, in the kid class, but I got my first decided black belt in that. Then dropped out and started Kung-fu (as posted above) then that got so repetative, and the school got so big that unless you pretty much talked to the master in-between classes you'd never get all the personal help you needed.
Capoeira is very flashy, its a dance style martial arts, and yea your right, it isn't really a strait out martial art, but fuck that I'd rather look flashy than just a average martial artist.

Known as O Sensei, he combined (to over-simplify) the grappling and joint-locks of Judo/Ju-Jitsu and the body movements of various weapons arts (Tai Chi, Kendo, fuck if I remember) along with adding plenty of his own moves to create a powerful "redirecting" martial art.
It was used for when the warrior realized the humanity of his opponent, and could not take his/her life.
For the most part (all of it, as far as I know) is unarmed.

What I'd really like to try sometime is a flying drop kick. Now THAT'S cool. If I were to pick my next martial art, it would either be Ninjutsu or Aikido.
Ninjitsu would be awsome to learn, so would Aikido.
Fuck it, Southern china mantis would just be kick ass to learn.

Modern Aikido was, Yes. But he was trained under Aiki-Jujutsu. After world war II, he modified Aiki-Jujutsu to be less spiritual, and that was the begining of Modern Aikido.
By degrees, unarmed techniques developed into different systems and styles. Varying battlefield situations and the technical requirements of feudal warfare led to the establishment of various ryu which were controlled by, and passed down through the large powerful families. One of these systems was Aiki-jujutsu. It is not completely clear when Aiki techniques began, but the Aiki system is said to have originated with Prince Teijun, the 6th son of the Emperor Seiwa (850-880 AD)and was passed on to succeeding generations of the Minamoto family. By the time the art reached Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu, the younger brother of Yoshie Minamoto (the leader of the Minamoto clan), it seems that the foundations of modern Aikido had already been laid.
