One of the good quotes, and a relavant one for me at the moment.

"I have confronted my own demons, and the only thing I know... The only thing that is for certain... Is that I will live with them for the rest of my life."

Anyone else got any close quotes to them?

To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth,

Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference.

Kermitov, I have it down as:
'"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy,
and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or
a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding
of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists
for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg Trials '

then there's the good ol'

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the
citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a
double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it
narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached
a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind
has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the
rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with
fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights
unto the leader and gladly so. How do I
know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

According to my OED, the only noun form of "quote" refers to a short form of "quotation marks."

Websters does list the meaning you have, but it is improper usage. That's the fallacy: being listed in a dictionary means people use a word in a given manner, not that it's proper to do so.

Of course, there is constant tension between proper and vulgar usage, and the language evolves, sometimes in unexpected ways. But if one is going to use that as justification for sloppy speaking, we might as well all jump on the Ebonics bandwagon, as it's obviously the wave of the future.
