What are your first thoughts?
Was it worth the cash?
Does it live up too the hype?
Will it be fun in module after module?
How is the single player?
How is the multi player?
heh.
but I don't know for sure

Yes.
It's a very good game. Solidly based on D&D and true to Faerun as far as I can tell so far. It has a couple issues with alt-tabbing which piss me off, but generally it is bug free.
Yes.
Yes and no. It's very good, but it's also received a lot of hype since it was announced. It's like Star Wars episode 1. Lotta hype, can't live up to it, but it's still VERY good. Unlike the movie I quoted. Lemme just emphasize that again. It's VERY good. But anything with a ton of hype is gonna fall short on some things.
Very much so, I believe.
Single-player is very nice. The storyline draws you in...it's fun.
Multi-player is fun also, but it really needs custom mods for it to be more enjoyable. I find the default campaign much more enjoyable single-player currently.

How much can you interact with the environment? On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being EverQuest, 10 being Morrowind)

I don't believe you can create a class. Otherwise...it's D&D 3rd edition. Basically any race can be any class.
As for interacting with the environment...again, it's very much so D&D. You can talk to everyone, you can interact with objects, etc etc...your actions have consequences and such.
It's really a great game. Makes me feel like I'm playing D&D. Minus the annoying people.
I feel the graphics in the other two Baulders Gate games were more appropriate for the D&D setting. Icewind Dale included. It's just not giving me that good sensation. Then again, I've only gotten past the first part, when everything goes to Hell.

YOU WHAT!?
You can't. Gotta use the standard classes. It's always been very hard to make classes in D&D anyways. You have to make sure they're balanced and such and it's usually the DM's decision.
Obviously since this is a computer game, they couldn't put in something that was complex enough to decide what is or isn't unbalancing. I'd really not like a vast majority of the time they spent programming to have been put to that use anyways.
You CAN multi/dual class. It's D&D. If you've ever played it before you'd understand.

For once either post something useful or stop posting. You don't know anything about D&D, you don't really bother to understand what is said, and you're generally being annoying right now. If you will notice, I explained why it isn't feasible to make a class for a D&D computer game.
Now stfu or say something useful for once in your life.
Talking with NPCs: You click on them, and they talk. You get a list of responces you can give.
Alignment: My first real attempt at a character was a gnome sorcerer. Saving people in part of the city started nudging me out of my True Neutral alignment towards good. IT KEEPS TRACK OF ALIGNMENT!!! (That's a warning to all you crappy palidins out there.)
Character creation: Very much ripped out of 3rd ed. Plus, you get to select from two body types for your race/gender (hefty and thin), several different faces and hair styles, and you get to pick skin/hair color. So, you can make a elf that looks like a (_|_) if you want. You have a small selection of voices to use too.
Pause: In single player, you can pause the game and enter commands for your character to perform. These become icons at the top of the screen, and they are performed in order when you un-pause. (You can click on the icon to remove it from the list.) This allows you to input your actions without having to rush during combat. Very cool, but may be disabled in multi games.
Creation stuff: I haven't messed with it any at all yet, but I have the "hint book" for it to help. I wanna see if you can use it to make a Gnoll PC, or something similar.
i got the game and was all like, "OMG OMG OMG true 3e rules in a Bioware game!!! WOOO!"
for the most part the game has MORE than made up for the character creation, which didn't meet my expectations at all.
for starters, when you click on "sub race", instead of getting the wide breadth of subraces that the Forgotten Realms has to offer you got a prompt to type in a sub race. i actually got away with being a "Drow" human.
it's the same thing for Diety too. The Realms has a great selection of Dieties that really give a flavor to your character. I was really disapointed when i clicked on the Diety button and got a prompt to type in the name of your characters Diety. For a someone who likes to play clerics, it's kinda wierd that Diety has NOTHING to do with the game.
the Ability Score system in point buy which is my least favorite of all the ability score selectors in 3e.
But, after you've gotten your character all squared away the is fantastic. The only thing that's really ticked me off about the game so far is that as a Cleric you can't substitute spells like it says you should be able to in the manual. Also the Inflict line of spells, the damaging version of the Cure spells, has been removed from the game.

not point buy!!
anything but point buy!!!
...how many points?
all stats start at base of 8 and if you are a class that has a certain ability score req it's automatically "bought" and the points it takes to reach the req get deducted from the 30. This is a human fighter too btw.
basically, i created a fighter with these stats:
Str: 16
Dex: 13
Con: 15
Int & Wis: 10
Cha: 8
i liked the BG/BG2 system, it allowed for higher ability scores, however, mediocre(sp?) ability scores do not seem to TOO big of a detriment, but it DOES suck not being able to roll up my stats and play with them like BG/BG2 [ 06-21-2002: Message edited by: Geeorn ]
With point buy, there's a limit on what your heroes can be. Strong as a bull and tough as nails, but dumber than both. Smart as a tack, dexterous as a cat, but with about as much common sense as a retarded spider monkey.
No adventurer is smarter than the smartest mage, as wise as the gods, quicker than a rat and stronger than a giant
The point-buy system merely makes your characters incapable of being perfect at every little thing they do. Which is why I see Geeorn and Fennar are upset

yeah right up til the first trainer comes out. Probably out already...

Let's just say, in conclusion, I'd say it's worth your money.
Point buy allows for more realistic, rounded characters. Sure you won't get any super 18 stats without another stat suffering, but you wont have to deal with that INT of 3 either if that's what you happen to roll. Extremes are both good and bad mm'kay?
The editor will take some time to figure out, but after putzing around last night I managed to make a small test sewer area with a non-hostile blackdragon chilling out in it.
F'er's are big.
In my opinion, the gameplay and look of this is what PoR *SHOULD* have been. I'm enjoying it very much so far and can't wait to check out the mods and campaigns when they come out.

-Are there exotic weapon proficiency feats for two-handed weapons that can be used one-handed? (Eg. Exotic Proficiency: Bastard Sword)

This makes traps and locked chests/doors nothing more than an annoying waste of time in the game. Considering how many traps and locked chests/doors there are, and this has really started to get on my nerve. I'd have no problem if they were supposed to be a challenge, but as of now its just an annoyance. I could see this as being a major annoyance for DMs/builders.
Note: This doesn't seem to be the truth for other skills though. Every other skill seems to roll fine, its just disarm traps and unlock that seem to be broken.

This is how it works in 3rd edition rules, any player can "take 20" and get an automatic success if they have time to do so. My problem with it is that poor Tomi will see a trap, flip out, and ignore the 30 zombies in the room just so he can disarm it.
I really like the game, but it's not the new Mecca of online rpgs. While it's multiplayer is indeed better than past Bioware D&D titles, I just don't think the gameplay is as stellar as it was in BG, BGII, and IWD.

If you notice, the instructions mention failing a roll by 10 or more while disarming a trap. They talk about it setting off the trap, but this will only happen during combat. In combat, you can't "take 20".
So keep getting that skill up. You may need it in a pinch. Not to mention, on some locks taking 20 may not be enough if your skill is too low.

Aye I know how the rules work, but in NWN it seems to ignore that part. Anytime my henchman rogue can disarm a trap he does, never fails, even though he will sometimes step on a floor trap trying to get to it's disarm points =P.
Which brings up a gripe, pathing in this game is NON EXISTANT! =( Your henchman won't path to you, he just kinda warps on top of you if there is no path, he won't move around objects to get into fights, he won't walk through a door if asked to pick a lock, etc. Real PITA.

Yeah, but I thought you couldn't take a 20 on a trap disarm because there's a potential penalty for failing. Taking a 10 would be ok though. Isn't taking a 20 also supposed to result in taking longer to actually disarm, rather than the same exact couple of seconds Tomil always does?
