I saw what Dobby looks like on the poster on IMDB.com. It says "Dobby has come to warn you, sir" and has Dobby *exactly* as he is in the picture in the book at the beginning of the chapter.

This movie is going to be really good, I think. Aragog, Dobby, Fawkes, Tom Riddle, the Heir of Slytherin stuff, etc.

Chamber of Secrets was always my favorite, and since I re-read it, I rediscovered just why again.

They did a fantastic job with translation, though. Some things they had to cut out, just because you couldn't have everything. The movie would have been far too long. It was pretty long as it was.

The midnight duel wasn't essential, so that was left out. And having Snape and Quirrel in the forest for the "where your loyalties lie" thing wasn't necessary. I liked where they put it in the movie.

The only thing, I wish they would have extended on the conversation with Voldemort at the end, and later with Dumbledore. Book 1 raised a very important point. Voldemort wasn't coming for Lily and James. Voldemort was coming for *Harry*. Remember that Voldemort said Lily needn't have died, but she did because she was protecting Harry.

And when Harry is talking to Dumbledore later, Dumbledore can't tell him why Voldemort wanted to find him and kill him. I wish they would have put that in the movie, because I bet in 5-7 it'll come to be a big thing, and we'll finally find out why.

Well...reason that book five is taking so long is that Ms Rowling (now Mrs something...) has had a busy year. She got married, she did this movie, and prior to the movie she was cranking the books out. So from what I gather she's doing the consulting on the second movie now, then 2003 she'll be writing book 5, then 2004 we'll get the third movie and the 5th book, then 2005 the fourth movie and the 6th book, etc. Trying to keep things staggered to maximize interest.

Plus the lady's got at least one kid, a new hubby, etc. Have to give her a break at some point.

Got some great actors showing up. Kenneth Brannaugh is Professor Lockhart in Chamber of Secrets. Should be good. I was really impressed with the first movie...and the next three are going to be reeeeeeeeeeeeally cool, I think. Lots more special stuff, critter special effects and such.

They better get Tom right!

I have the utmost confidence they will, though.

And Waist, go back and re-read the books. It's really neat to read them again after you've seen the movie, and put their voices to what's said. *And* try to imagine what that scene is going to look like, given how the first movie was done.

Why's that?

And I dunno. Maybe it's because philosopher implies more of a boring thinker type, and sorcerer implies more of an action, magical person?

I also think America relates more to the word sorcerer than they do philosopher

I think Sorcerer goes better in a fantasy, magical-related novel myself. Kind of sets things up better for that sort of atmosphere.

Philosopher just sounds a bit too odd. I'm glad they changed it.

I dunno. Sorcerer's Stone, Philosopher's Stone. Either way. Part of it is that I don't think the book was geared for adults. Kids know what a sorcerer is. They hear the word in disney movies. How often do you hear Philosophy or philosophers mentioned in movies/books/TV shows aimed at kids?

As for the movies.. the first one was pretty good, but I found Voldemort's presentation to be disappointing.

I know it was. I'm a history buff and alchemy has always interested me. One reason I love the movie Hudson Hawk so much

I'm just saying that a lot of kids, especially, that read the books and a number of adults, won't have known about that particular part of alchemy.

I'm guessing that it was rather confusing, so the title was changed to something people could identify with a bit more.

That's how he was presented in the books. A being, on the back of Quirrel's head, feeding off him like some sort of sick parasite

I like the villain for the second movie MUCH better.

I read the books out of order, but it was the second one that had the Lockheart guy, correct? And expalined how small children were ideal vessels of evil?

If the kids don't know, then it's a good chance to teach them. Education value and all that.

The parasitic face thing was a great concept. I just didn't like what the face actually looked like.

Well, I wouldn't really say ideal vessels for evil.

It just showed how impressionable and vulnerable the child in question is

Yep, Chamber of Secrets had Lockhart

You should read the books, Sage if just to get the whole story on things. Plus see the things that had to be left out of the movie, or changed.

If you ever liked Roald Dahl, you'll like Rowling. Her books have a very similar feel.

And yeah, there's the second movie premiering November 15th this year. I hope you get to see it when it comes out over there.
