awww
Books were better than the movie, but I'll see the movie anyhoo.
I have the 1st on DVD, tis fun
This movie is going to be really good, I think. Aragog, Dobby, Fawkes, Tom Riddle, the Heir of Slytherin stuff, etc.
Chamber of Secrets was always my favorite, and since I re-read it, I rediscovered just why again.

What order were the books written in? I don't know, I've read the first one, and saw the movie, and liked both a good ammount.
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

They did a fantastic job with translation, though. Some things they had to cut out, just because you couldn't have everything. The movie would have been far too long. It was pretty long as it was.
The midnight duel wasn't essential, so that was left out. And having Snape and Quirrel in the forest for the "where your loyalties lie" thing wasn't necessary. I liked where they put it in the movie.
The only thing, I wish they would have extended on the conversation with Voldemort at the end, and later with Dumbledore. Book 1 raised a very important point. Voldemort wasn't coming for Lily and James. Voldemort was coming for *Harry*. Remember that Voldemort said Lily needn't have died, but she did because she was protecting Harry.
And when Harry is talking to Dumbledore later, Dumbledore can't tell him why Voldemort wanted to find him and kill him. I wish they would have put that in the movie, because I bet in 5-7 it'll come to be a big thing, and we'll finally find out why.

I think I'll see the next movie in the theater this time.
I'm going the first day, before work. I didn't see the first till a few days after it came out in theaters. I want to see the second as soon as I possibly can.

Plus the lady's got at least one kid, a new hubby, etc. Have to give her a break at some point.
Got some great actors showing up. Kenneth Brannaugh is Professor Lockhart in Chamber of Secrets. Should be good. I was really impressed with the first movie...and the next three are going to be reeeeeeeeeeeeally cool, I think. Lots more special stuff, critter special effects and such.

I have the utmost confidence they will, though.
And Waist, go back and re-read the books. It's really neat to read them again after you've seen the movie, and put their voices to what's said. *And* try to imagine what that scene is going to look like, given how the first movie was done.

Anyway, I like the book but I found the movie.. well, disappointing to be honest
I'm just waiting for the next book though, darnit.
And I dunno. Maybe it's because philosopher implies more of a boring thinker type, and sorcerer implies more of an action, magical person?
I also think America relates more to the word sorcerer than they do philosopher
Lyinar Ka`Bael, Piney Fresh Druidess - Luclin
Another annoying thing... my surname is Potter in real life..
I think Sorcerer goes better in a fantasy, magical-related novel myself. Kind of sets things up better for that sort of atmosphere.
Philosopher just sounds a bit too odd. I'm glad they changed it.

I dunno. Sorcerer's Stone, Philosopher's Stone. Either way. Part of it is that I don't think the book was geared for adults. Kids know what a sorcerer is. They hear the word in disney movies. How often do you hear Philosophy or philosophers mentioned in movies/books/TV shows aimed at kids?

the whole hog: Turns stuff into gold (this one doesn;t get mentioned much in the books) and makes the elixir of life..
I guess I'll never know why exactly not that I'm too bothered about it really
As for the movies.. the first one was pretty good, but I found Voldemort's presentation to be disappointing.
I'm just saying that a lot of kids, especially, that read the books and a number of adults, won't have known about that particular part of alchemy.
I'm guessing that it was rather confusing, so the title was changed to something people could identify with a bit more.

That's how he was presented in the books. A being, on the back of Quirrel's head, feeding off him like some sort of sick parasite
I like the villain for the second movie MUCH better.
Lyinar Ka`Bael, Piney Fresh Druidess - Luclin
If the kids don't know, then it's a good chance to teach them. Education value and all that.
The parasitic face thing was a great concept. I just didn't like what the face actually looked like. [ 06-15-2002: Message edited by: MorbId ]
It just showed how impressionable and vulnerable the child in question is
(Don't want to give anything away)
Yep, Chamber of Secrets had Lockhart [ 06-15-2002: Message edited by: Lyinar Ka`Bael ]

It depends on the child.

The books aren't my style, but my wife and I watched the movie last week, and it was quite good. We'll probably buy it.
I'll have to wait for the European release if there's another movie coming up.

If you ever liked Roald Dahl, you'll like Rowling. Her books have a very similar feel.
And yeah, there's the second movie premiering November 15th this year. I hope you get to see it when it comes out over there.
