Rowling has a way of tying up all her loose ends that I absolutely adore.

And of mentioning small things in previous books that turn out to be large things in other books.

Like the trip to the zoo, and the relation to Chamber of Secrets.

I've never read the books but I just saw the movie last night. It's a really good movie.

Note: I've never been into books, so flame all you want.

If you liked the movie, I highly recommend the books.

The nice thing is that for the most part, the movie was faithful to the book. There were little snippy elements that weren't in (snippy in the sense you COULD complain...but why bother?). Like Malfoy and Potter's duel, or how the kids smuggle out Hagrid's dragon. That sort of thing. Stuff that if you read it in the book it's great, but it doesn't detract from the movie.

Like in Jurassic Park, they completely hack out about half the book dealing with Grant and the kids' adventure getting back to the sheds, dealing with Grant's full realization the dinos are breeding, and how the folks back at the command center find out. That stuff would have made the movie ten times more intelligent and interesting than it was.

Thankfully, with Harry Potter there's nothing missing like that. The duel? eh...interesting, but not vital to the story. How Norbert gets away and Malfoy turns them in? They modified it, but they kept the important elements. Stuff at the start of the movie to reinforce how terrible things were with the Dursleys was also cut from the final movie...but it's not really necessary to get the point of how bad it sucks. And it does retain the one moment that DOES have a point.

So if you enjoyed the movie, wanted more of this really good stuff and perhaps a little more back story (the sort you can only get from reading a novel), get the books. You can get the boxed set of the paperback books for a pittance these days, and it's well worth the investment because I guarantee you'll re-read the books at some point.

I LOVE KENNETH BRANAGH! Sweeeeeeeeeet.

I know I'm late in repsonding to this, but I did read the first book and saw the movie and really enjoyed both. I have the 2nd book right now (actually, I've been borrowing it since Christmas) and am going to sit down and start it tomorrow. Just had to find the time, heh!

I can hardly wait until the second movie though.

1. why sorceror's stone?

Because it was owned by a sorceror, of course. If she'd titled it "the Philosopher's Stone" she'd have given a bit away now, wouldn't she?
