I've been a liberal most of my life, mostly choosing what I like from Republican and Democratic platforms.
As of late, however, since my U.S. History class has started talking about the late 1800s and early 1900s, I've taken up an interest in socialism, nothing serious atm, just an interest
I also feel that everyone should start off from equal ground, that each should have the same opportunites. It's just a matter of what you do with it.
Everyone should be given equally (No one should have more than other) and all should have a voice, and all should do their share or be thrown into the Delidgacage for a few hours.
Yes, I also beleive in capital punishment.
Political party labels are rediculous and irrelevant if you ask me. Useless remnants of antiquated and failed previous political systems.

Bleh..I tend to lean away from Politics thanks

I like Washington's theory. No Political Parties.
That certainly would reduce voting simply by partisan lines, more along personalities, but it would make it harder in close races, plus no established political structures for fundraising.

And the downside is...?
It's going to be interesting to see further elections past the upcoming Congressional election functions without soft money, but hard money will likely replace it. Still, most often people contribute to the party more often than the individual, oftentimes as a blanket action simply because they agree with a party's philosophy moreso than the couple dozen candidates it sponsors.
That having been said, I'm not sure just where my "alignment" lies. It tends to vary alot, depending on situation.

Well, with today's current media-based campaigns, you oftentimes need a party-based structure for Political Action Comittees, corporations, and private individuals to contribute money...
In a partyless system a candidate who believed in something would still be supported by others who held that belief. The only thing that would be missing is the meaningless and often unfair party label and the obligation to comply with beliefs that your party imposes on you.

That's probably true, and would result in a lot more people in the race...but then again it would be harder to gain a following. While third parties haven't been able to get much support, oftentimes the popular movement they represent are absorbed into one of the major two parties. In a sense, a candidate can be a Republican and not follow along with the conservative, pro-business undertones and prefer to stick to a more centrist policy, or a Democrat could follow a similar path, the party system isn't exactly a mold. Besides, as far as most elections go, parties only become an issue for voters during the primaries, when it comes to deciding which candidate from each party should run, then it becomes more personality-based, with partisan decisions coming in usually in close races or with apathetic voters. The party system has worked, no doubt about it, much like a particular set of organizations moves towards a particular goal, each member can do a variety of things within that framework.

Either Communist or Tribal. I dont like Democracy cause it doesnt with large populations. Everyone has a say and pretty soon everything is illegal because some fuckin retard is "offended"
Political correctness sucks, but Communistic governments have yet to work permanently(there have been no true Communist governments, only totalitarian), and tribal systems don't really still exist except as relating to Native Americans, some African tribes, and pacific islanders, most of them not industrialized.
Political races have always been biased to the rich. Our current president, a rich Texan with many billionaire friends (*coughEnroncough*). Our previous president, a 'political activist' who has a nice large sum of money from his real estate ventures. This nice lineage of aristocracies has continued on for a nice long time.

I'm more of a conservative, but I haven't really cared enough to look at each side's beliefs thoroughly. What I have heard of the liberal side... makes me want to tear some flesh. [ 03-26-2002: Message edited by: Kegwen ]
