Simply sucks as newbie area. 
My favorite since about a week after the game came out untill i quit: Qeynos. My first warrior was born and raised there only to lose all his equipment on the other side of the world at the bottom of the Ocean of Tears. My enchanter was born there. And the character I finally stuck with was born there. Oh the memories of blackburrow and cross treewind and my revenge on him and black burrow. Man those were the days when i loved everquest and knew why!

I like it, personally. 
My most hated is East Commons. It is SO HARD to find stuff to kill there once you hit level 4 or so. You're not high enough to kill orcs, and it's very hard to find evens and blues. x_X

Uh...what the hell are you talking about? After level 1, you're pretty much set for some easy powerleveling there. Honestly, that's my favorite newbie zone.
Least favorite would be.....EC or Nektulos, probably.

its got all those nice little halflings to kill, (all associated factions with them could not get any better/worse)
and not to mention that idiotic Travis Two Tone, that man got me to 24. theres no chance of trains because:
A: by the time you get anywhere your already dead
B: hundreds of guards and golems walking around everywhere
C: nobody knows their way around so they cant get anywhere should they try to run
Only 10 percent of the zone is worth fightin at. heh
And there is too many dam elves these days.
When I started Superion there, I cheered not when I dinged, but when I found something to fight...
Paineel isn't bad, but when my necro hit 6 the exp STOPPED from there; and he kept getting chased out of the Warrens, because hte entry to the Warrens is impossible to solo at 7.
Field of Bone, in my opinion, can almost compete for Misty Thicket as the best newbie zone. You could fight for experience realtively safely from 1 all the way up to 20. (Although at about 10, you'd want to grab a Kurn's group to level faster). Got to be carefull in the middle of the pit, but you could safely pull to the ramps for the most part. The newbie garden, between Cabilis and the pit, was a pretty easy place to get up to 5, and Trooper Taer was always around if you got overwhelmed by too many scaled wolf pups at a time.
Although iksar get four newbie zones, all the others are kind of a pain to fight in. Swamp of No Hope would get you killed really quick. On an island where you're fighting level 5 to 8 frogloks, quite often a ton knight or gaz warrior would come along, and you're utterly helpless. I got killed in the water, and had a hell of a time finiding my corpse again. This place is easy for a newbie to get lost in. It's only good for about the first five levels, when you can fight just outside Cabilis.
Nektulous Forest is pretty bad. Once you get to a decent level, it's pretty good, but it's NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to get there. There's always things that pop out of nowhere, it's a bit of a trek to the guards, TOO DAMN EASY TO GET LOST, too dark, too foggy, too many things that can kick your newbie ass. The guardians tend to killsteal what pickings you can find, there's always a bunch of newbie darkies about to steal what meager critters there are. It's just a nightmare in there.
Greater. Faydark. ARG. The spam, the gross amounts of people... I dont' CARE if it's not your server's merchant place, there's always a ton of people there, bitching, killstealing, and generating more lag so that train of orcs can come gangrape your tender, young flesh. Also, you tend to get "if I see ONE more orc I swear I'm going to mailbomb Verant" syndrome. Only upside is that, by being around so many people, it's very very easy to find groups, and you run into some generous people who think newbies are cute and fun to twink.
Toxx is kinda bleh. Close to Paineel and The Warrens, which, if you can get to it, will rock you so very, very much. Also, a boat ride away from Qeynos, which has an incredibly nice newbie zone. Only thing is the fog. THE FOG. ARg.
