So today I had the chance to read through an American history book.
A few things made me want to throw the book away and scream.
First of all.
According to this waste of paper the Civil war was started over slavery!!! Uhh excuse me but the Civil war was started over States Rights. Slavery was only used as an excuse when the people started to get disillusioned with the war and Lincoln needed something to motivate them.
It also makes Lincoln out to be some great man. And it had this great quote. "President Abraham Lincoln did more to promote freedom in this country than any other man". What utter bullshit. He is the president who broke more laws and ignored more parts of the constitution that perhaps any other (Maybe Clinton was worse but I doubt even that)
Next the revolutionary war. You know the one where we kicked the British out and told them to stay out. (Not that they listened)
Well it talked about how it would have been better to negotiate for our freedom. Yes that is right. A HISTORY book is giving suggestions on how we should have done things instead of just telling how it happened. It made the Americans out to be the bad guys.
I won't even get into how it takes a political stance on guns and how they have been used in history.
I could go on an on for hours about this. But I am really to pissed and don't want to rant to much.
I am just so pissed right now I could spit. Why are they lying to our children? Didn't the Nazi's try that as well? Rewriting history to fit what they wanted.

That said, I do disagree with the comments regarding the revolution. The colonists pleaded their case for years, to no avail.

While I do agree that the political motives surrounding the Civil War should be expounded upon, I do not agree that Lincoln was a poor President, or a bad person in general. Honestly, I don't even see where that part came from

Anyway, yeah, I read a couple of those glowing histories. One of the greatest delights of my twelve years was reading one book which chastised the Spanish-American War
For those unfamiliar with it, the S-A War was instigated by the States in order to acquire more territory in the West.

depening on where ever you are, the teaching will be different. like in the north you will learn the south started the civil war. if you are in the south i think you learn that the north started the war. not 100% sure of this,just something i been told before .
