Also heavy armour + shield + perk-powered one handed is pretty powerful. The only downside is how many perks it gobbles up.

I notice they've severely toned down the "enemies level with you" thing this time around.

It's still there but it's much more subtle and mixes in low and high level enemies along with the level appropriate ones. Much more realistic and fun.

Maxing out blacksmithing to 100 just by making iron daggers almost felt like cheating.

I have been using only the bow for combat and it is "ok", the damage seems very random and often pretty low.

I'm doing the same, just can't fucking WAIT for the 50% reduction in elemental damage when blocking. That alone will make me overpowered as hell.

Orcish armor looks amazing. Dwarven is a little 'meh'. Haven't gotten to ebony, daedric, or dragon yet. Haven't wanted to cheese the smithing too much with the iron daggers

Daedric quests are so much more fun now. Sanguine's quest was a riot; Meridia's was great, though I'm still searching for Azura's shrine. Gotta get me dat infinite soul gem!

Started it last night, great game so far.

My only gripe is when I got to the character creation screen. The familiar races were there; orcs, high/wood/dark elves, Humans, dark humans, etc.

Thing is, everyone (Elves especially) are ugly as hell.

What's with that?

Improved Dragon Textures

Daedric Armour Retexture

Armour Texture Improvement

Clothing Texture Improvement

Better Interiors

Better Pine Trees

Steel Greatsword Retexture

Steel War Axe Retexture

Steel Sword Retexture

Enhanced Blood Textures

Enhanced Night Sky

Beautiful Skyrim Mod (updates clutter and crafting tables)

No More Block Faces Mod

Display RL Time on Loading Screen

Sharpen Effect (use the "less sharp" optional file as the main file is almost like a cell shader, the less sharp is much better)

Glowing Ore Veins

Fixed my problems by fooling the executable into using more than 2GB of ram. Vanilla won't use any more than that and will crash when it's full.

How to cheese Skyrim:

Get 100 Smithing
Get 100 Enchanting
Get 100 Alchemy

Make 50% enchanting boost potion.
Enchant gloves with +Alchemy Boost
Then keep this cycle up, making better stuff each time. Until you get tired of it or stop seeing improvements.

Make smithing boost gauntlets, chest, ring, necklace. Get the Notched Pickaxe, disenchant it, drink an enchanting potion, put it on something else.

Smith your armor. Drink a smithing potion, then improve the armor (smithing doesn't help base weapon/armor stuff).

Drink an enchanting potion, then enchant all your gear with +% weapon damage (depending on if you're 1h or 2h primary), and other stuff all over the armor.

Enjoy one shotting everything.

I did the light version of this, without alchemy. And I'm still destroying most everything that crosses my path. It's pretty fun. Yes, it makes the game easy. But I don't care -- one shotting a dremora makes me happy.

Bethesda/Steam recently patched the EXE to force it to launch only through Steam, which broke the LAA (Large Address Aware) patch. Great going Bethesda! Try to stop pirates but only punish your paying customers.

You can get around it by using the original EXE and the LAA program and by telling Steam not to update that game via the game's properties page and the updates tab in steam. I'm hosting the original EXE so I can personally guarantee it's virus and trojan free. Scan it with your virus scanner of choice if you still don't trust me.

Link here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the_avatar/TESV.rar

That EXE is already Large Address Aware so you don't need to LAA patch it.

What the LAA flagged EXE will do is:

  • Stop the game crashing after a few hours of play. I've played 12+ hours with this no problem.
  • Give improved performance if you've installed upgraded texture mods.
  • Stop any textures bugging out, like the now infamous pink texture corruption.

Hope this helps. Please don't abuse the download by spreading it everywhere, in which case it will be removed as my bandwidth is finite.

In Oblivion, this mod was popular and I consider it a must-have. It caused quest rewards that were normally locked to the level at which you completed the quest, to instead level up with you.

I consider leveled quest rewards one of the most bafflingly stupid ideas in recent TES games because it basically punishes you for playing the game. I'm disappointed to find that it has been carried along to Skyrim.

Does anyone know if a similar mod to defeat this feature exists for skyrim?

With ATI, always follow the three step rule.

  • Express uninstall via the ATI uninstaller. Reboot.
  • Run Driver Sweeper to clean out anything leftover from ATI (listed as AMD graphics). Reboot.
  • Install new drivers. Reboot.

Tends to crash a lot more when you add modded textures, but that's because its very low RAM allocation gets swallowed up and the game has no idea what to do once it's full.

So it craps itself.

Are the mods that responsible for this? I just picked Skyrim up, added a few simple graphics mods (no-blocky-faces, more realistic water, beautiful Skyrim), and the game crashed about two hours in. I'm using your hosted exe instead of the Steam launcher.

It doesn't really seem like the mods are a huge improvement over default settings (it was a huge difference in Oblivion and Morrowind), and if the mods are going to cause any of those crashes I'll just as soon drop them.
