Maybe I read that wrong but it certainly sounds to me like it's blaming atheists for every major conflict in the 20th century.

Other than that we're in agreement in not knowing how all that other stuff works!

The Enlightenment view of man isn't really a-theistic. For the most part, it shoves external powers to the side and defines the theistic force in the universe as the progressive endeavors of man. This is a gross generalization--Comte, Robespierre, Rousseau, and Condorcet all had vastly different opinions about it, but it's a passable generalization.

It was more of the British empiricists (Berkley, Locke, and Hume) that were the forerunners of a-theism (whether God is or no doesn't so much matter to them, they don't care 'cause they can't study him), but they only really formed the scientific epistemology that we inherited.

Even Nietzche's dictum that God is dead isn't so much atheistic bombastary, but social commentary on Comte's impact.

Hope that helps clear it up.

I'm Kemetic Orthodox, which isn't exactly monotheistic or polytheistic. It's sort of a special form of polytheism in which all the various gods are part of one divine source. We classify ourselves as monolatrous, though that doesn't quite fit the dictionary definition of the word.

That's Ok, though, because you can blame religion for every major conflict from the 1st though 19th centuries.

I'm a naturalist, fiercely so. It's an inherently atheistic worldview, though naturalist is a more accurate description than atheist, as the question of God is a meaningless one. I don't keep quite the fluffy humanistic version of it that I used to, however.

There is a natural order of things, all things--and it can be revealed in part through scientific inquiry. Somehow I doubt all the secrets of existence will be revealed, but most of them will be, in time. The natural universe is filled with infinite wonders, violently indifferent, of which even a cursory understanding is far better than any supernatural folly.

k?

I'm trying to figure out why that matters. The comparison is retarded either way.

I completely agree, the million dollars comparison is stupid.

I'm just saying it's also stupid to try to (dis)prove the supernatural by natural means.

If there is a Wizard somewhere who created me and cares what I do, I'm pretty sure he would appreciate me taking advantage of the intelligence he gave me.

Dedicating my life to something when nothing in the entire world even suggests it even exists is not a good way to take advantage of that intelligence.

Yes, I'm calling God a Wizard because it's ridiculous no matter what you name it.

And I wonder if, perhaps, heaven is the pleasure I feel whenever someone who posts on this messageboard feels pain.
