Everyone but Ron Paul (and to an extent, Tancredo) still believe we should have "invaded Iraq because it was the right thing to do."

Kucinich doesn't buy into that crap, which is why he never supported the war at any point, but he's still basically out of his mind.

I once saw a UFO. I was 8, and it was one of those rotating spotlight dealies.

I thought that was his wife? Unidentified Fucking Object.

Or was she one of the aliens dropped off by the UFO?

Maradon! had this to say about Jimmy Carter:
I hope you mean "regarding the war" because almost every candidate is specifically setting themselves apart from Bush. Giuliani in particular is running on a platform of securing the border and imposing strict spending reductions on government, both huge failings of the Bush administration.

Yeah I was specifically talking about war issues. I don't want another president who ideologically feels it's our responsibility (or even capability) to go around invading countries then nation-building. We've already heard the drumbeat for Iran. I want a president who wields our interstate powers like a scalpel instead of a club.

quote:
Get used to it, because the war is a losing issue for Democrats. Almost all the news out of Iraq in the past four months has been good, with violence down 70%, Anbar sunni sheiks rallied to the coalition's side and advocating cooperation with Shiites, and troop reduction facilitated by actual ground conditions instead of arbitrary political metrics right around the corner.

The war was only unpopular when it wasn't going so well. The pollsters asked folks how the felt about the war, but they forgot to ask why.

And then on the other side of the fence we have Hillary (who you will undoubtedly be voting for in a little less than a year) refusing to promise a troop withdrawal while Obama makes a complete fool of himself again and again.

I haven't been following the war lately. Managing the war is pretty much a non-issue to me, although I'm glad it's going well. I think we should either commit to staying for 10+ years or we might as well withdraw tomorrow, but I know it isn't exactly mainstream. The reality is I don't see any kind of "timetable" happening even if a candidate who wanted it is elected.

quote:
Haha, oh, god forbid we threaten an entrenched bureaucracy with a solid history of utter failure!

I don't mind him feeling personally that allowing the federal government to collect taxes is a mistake, but it's kind of a crappy position as a candidate. There's no way that there will ever be enough support to scrap income tax. (how will we pay back our monstrous national debt?) Same thing with scrapping Medicare etc... it won't ever happen so it's pointless to bring it up as a solution.

Kucinich doesn't buy into that crap, which is why he never supported the war at any point, but he's still basically out of his mind.

In that context I was talking about GOP candidates. Yes, Kucinich is pretty crazy.
