Good luck Gains, keep us updated as to the progress :-)

I'm assuming that you're doing this on a home console - have you considered the difference between a regular DDR machine and the mat? I think using a mat would be a little more difficult because of the slide factor.

And jeebus, Steve, you're going to be very, very large.

Good on you for trying to lose the weight. I fluctuate constantly by about 15 to 20 pounds and it can be a bitch.

My advice is this: You normally weigh less in the mornings, just by a few ounces or so, depending. Dont weight yourself within two or three hours of eating.... mornings are best, after your ablutions. The waste you process overnight doesnt stay with you after a trip to the bathroom, so its erroneous to weigh in before you evacuate.

A workout doesnt do anything substantial for you until you start sweating. A good guideline to go by is that pretty much anything after 20 minutes of activity is what will give you the most benefit. And stretch before any after your regimen, otherwise you can hurt yourself.

Drink lots of water. Try to stay away from Gatorade and sports drinks. Those types of things are really only made for the very active people, and contain high amounts of sugar. If you dont burn all that off, you're just going to pack more fat on.

Eat something light before a workout and give it time to settle.. Personally, I usually eat a plain bagel or somesuch. Gives you plenty of energy and is good for you too.

High-difficulty DDR should provide about the same workout per time as jogging. While DDR has more rapid motions, he won't need to propel himself quite as much with each step. So Gains plans to start with the equivalent of a ten-minute jog/run, and work his way up to a 20-minute jog/run as his endurance builds. Provided he keeps to his commitment, this should give him a reasonable daily workout.

Except that a 20 minute jog only burns like 150 calories, which is basically equivalent to a can of regular pop haha

Which is why I said anything done AFTER the first 20 minutes is where the benefit comes in.

3 pounds gone already wth. I might chock it up to a different time I weighed myself at, although both were within a couple minutes of me waking up (I was up late the night before yesterday).

And, Beau, other than the bar, there is very little difference between my home pads and the arcade (though the bar makes a massive difference as I mentioned earlier). I am using metal, slightly lower than arcade quality, pads. I also play in shoes, as one would expect on a metal pad.

What do you do for a living, Faz? Are you a trainer yet or do you just have a lot of free time to figure all this workout stuff out?

I go to school full time year round, but not for health or anything, ha ha. I've been involved in exercise physiology/bodybuilding/training/nutrition for about 9 years. I mooch off my parents for a living. This is basically my only hobby besides MS Paint drawing unless you count video games.

Also, most of the only people I physically speak to outside of my family are amateur bodybuilders or fitness trainers.

Probably not, since my workout is basically a more versatile version of military basic training with more focus on physical training and less on mental toughness.

Haha, the only 'mental toughness' aspect of boot camp is taking the bullshit and not complaining about it, on varying levels depending on the branch.

And your regimen exceeds that of any basic training, except possibly the Marines. Its probably on par with the Army (scary motherfuckers.)

You'd probably find the personal trainer deal pretty lucrative. It wouldn't take that long to get the accreditation, and you've already got the physique for it.

I already tried training 5-10 people and they all failed because they were girls, too content with their fatness, or too lazy to wake up early.

Are you drinking a lot of water?

Because you can dehydrate yourself quickly, and that might be how the pounds are going so fast. 10 pounds in less than a week isnt exactly healthy.

Drink water til you piss clear.

+1 for hydration. Unless you're starving yourself, I think it's incredibly difficult to burn that many calories a day.

Yes haha, you would have had to burn around 18,000 calories in the last 2 days (did not happen) to have lost 10 actual pounds of body weight.

Yeah, in my experience your body weight drops off like wtf after the first few days of exercise. You'll gain a lot of it back though, but at least you know you're doing something.

Also, if you say DDR isn't good exercise you aren't playing it right. At the level Gains and I play at it's better than running imo

Also I begin my insane routine tomorrow. I will probably have a slight "epiphany" where I don't visit the forums for about two days and then I will just come crawling back.

Four days is probably not enough for a significant difference, but still, have you been watching your diet as well as exercising?

I personally plan on getting a treadmill once I move out and running while watching movies or something.

I used to think the whole "DDR IS EXERCISE" thing was pretty stupid, but when you get down to it, it's really just a sort of aerobics where you're conveniently playing a game at the same time.

I wonder how hard it would be to play a game with a controller while jogging... hmm
