Being principled would be playing it with Starforce anyways, or choosing not to play it. I've, sadly, taken the latter. Hopefully they pull Starforce from it like other companies have.
Hopefully they'll offer a DD version of it without Starforce.

I've chosen not to punish the developer because their publisher made a shitty decision.
And I have chosen to not support the publisher because they made a shitty decision, and the developer for going with a shitty publisher.

That's fine too of course. The advantage of my method is that I get to play every game I want.
And the disadvantage is you perpetuate the existence of companies that think it's OK to install a root kit on your box.
Edit: If I must indirectly support this, to support good games, then so be it. It's a price I am willing to pay. Tarquinn fucked around with this message on 06-08-2007 at 09:15 AM.

Mail the developers a check for 40 bucks or 20 marks or whatever and pirate a copy. Blindy. fucked around with this message on 06-08-2007 at 09:23 AM.

Yeah, that might work.
Just two things.
1. I never pirate stuff.
2. I am lazy.
Edit: Oh, and we use Euros these days. Tarquinn fucked around with this message on 06-08-2007 at 09:25 AM.

1. Ok just don't come posting for help when your cd-rom shits itself or it takes you 5 hours to re-install WoW because the driver starforce installed over top your driver limits you to 4x read speed.
2. If I look up the address of the developer and post it here for you, and provide you a link to a bit torrent, would you act in your own best intrest, even if it means stuffing an envelope with money?
3. OK

1. No, I won't. I have had Starforce installed on my PC before. I encountered no problems running, or uninstalling it. The only time I ever had problems with a copy protection programm, was with BGII:ToB, which didn't use Starforce as far as I know. Tarquinn fucked around with this message on 06-08-2007 at 10:30 AM.
2. I will not pirate games. I will not send cash to anyone via regular mail.

4. Wow, this seems to be a big deal for you.

You heard it here first.

Silly question...what's the deal with Starforce? I get it. It's bad. But what flavor of bad?
Starforce drivers compromise system security and have been linked to system instability.
They can also conflict with existing optical drives - as Blindy noted - causing a whole fucking array of problems from reduced read/write speeds to complete failure.
