1. You still get to carry around the highest title you ever had when people inspect you. Gotta stroke that e-peen. 
2. A more practical reason would be that if you're close to a rank with (x) multiple interesting items, you can just buy them all in one shot still. After the revamp you'd have to amass (x) times the honor tokens you'd need for them.
