I could go without being old. That would be fine.

Whoa, just earlier I was wondering if sleeping is meant to prolong life, haha.
Actually, it probably does, albet incidentally.
Your metabolism slows to a crawl while you sleep, and metabolic rate has been scientifically linked to life span.
Plus it's not as if you'd somehow be vastly more productive with your time if you didn't sleep. You'd just find a new equilibrium point.
And, of course, I would miss out on the upsides of being old. So I'm in a frail body. Rather be in a frail body than a dead body. So I might go a little kooky in the head. Could be fun. I might have problems as an elderly person, but at least I'd still be there.

Such a drug would dehumanize us if it went into mass production. Imagine what a nine to five work schedule would become if sleep was not an issue. Companies whose employees put in the traditional work effort would be simply unable to keep up. Work hours per day would increase by a sick necessity (think Drawin).
The market would further remove the common workers' already low ratio of free time to work and quality of life as a whole would plummet. diadem fucked around with this message on 11-03-2006 at 07:42 AM.
