were did adellion and dawn go?
As a primarily EQ player, it isn't all that worth it to switch to Vanguard. I really would lose more then I gained. I'll get Vanguard but only because I'm a Station subscriber. That 20gb download was pretty hellish and I fear what is to come with more content. Then again, patching has been mostly painless. Pesco fucked around with this message on 10-25-2006 at 07:28 PM.

I still don't understand the want for an MMO with perma-death.
I mean, if it matters that much to you, just delete your characters after you get killed.

Pesco painfully thought these words up:
They are revamping a lot of stuff right now. It is no where near release but they could prove me wrong with the revamps. As it stands right now with EoF coming for EQ2 and BC for WoW there isn't really much else an MMO'er needs. In terms of game play, it is currently smack in between WoW and EQ. I suspect it will basically just morph into a group-focused WoW clone. Though I wouldn't mind seeing some of the stuff they've done be implemented into other games.
So, basically, as I said: the game is doomed.
Anything less than WoW fails and fails hard, as seen with the current MMOGs and I sincerely doubt that the people who created the pinnacle of originality known as EQ have the innovation to make it more interesting than WoW.
So, essentially, this entire thread is one more painful lesson in why we shouldn't ever argue with Parcelan because he's always right.
My mind has been blown.

Anything less than WoW fails and fails hard
Any release of any MMOG on the horizon is going to be "less than WoW". I hate to say it, but WoW is a juggernaut that nobody is going to compete with for at least several years. Actually, I'd say trying to compete with WoW is a recipe for failure (which EQ2 devs learned). If you just make a good MMO and don't try to compete with WoW, you're a hell of a lot more likely to do well (like Eve is doing and Warhammer will most likely do).

How can a game developer justify having twenty fucking gigabytes of shit in the install? My mind has been blown.
Uncompressed or really fucking badly compressed textures most likely.
Actually, I wouldn't say that we're too far from 20 gig installs in the future. We've hit the 10 gig mark with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (can't think of any games to hit this mark without an expansion, mods, etc.). Next gen console titles don't have to worry about space, so any ports can easily be bigger (hello 50 gig PS3 cap?). On the other hand, there's some recent strides in texture compression that should be reversing these numbers into vastly smaller installs if developers use the technology. Bigger installs are less work though, so I'd wager that's what we'll see.
Warhammer looks like it's going to do well, indeed. I was originally enchanted by the backstory (WAAAAAAUGH!) but I've been reading up on the classes and I think I'm in love with the Black Orcs.
Warhammer looks like it'll be the next big thing (WoW being ignored). Great source material and Mythic is a great developer. Plus, Paul Barnett has the perfect sales pitch.

Probably one of the 2 best things GWS has for its products is the lore they are able to create. With the artistic talent that goes in their stuff the other thing.

Yeah, that's the one difference between Orcs and Orks. Orcs say WAAAAAAGH!, Orks say WAAAAAUGH!
Either way, as soon as orc/ks start yelling that, it's time to fucking run.

No. 40k Orcs, the Orks, also do it without the "u".
