Well, my friend bought one a little bit after launch, and about when the slim came out, it just stopped reading most disks. Another friend of mine went through 2 before buying a slim, and my girlfriend bought a slim, and had to return it twice because it was not working. So IME they tend to break. None of these people stood theirs up at all.
