The difference between 480p and 720p or 1080i is astounding. Probably especially so as screen size increases.

To me, the Gamecube had damn fine looking graphics in the handful of worthwhile games it had, so a bump from that is still fine by me.

Exactly my point. If you're able to truthfully say Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, or Resident Evil 4 looks like utter shit, you're still lying through your teeth. Or Final Fantasy 12, Metal Gear Solid 3, Halo 2, whatever else came out on last generation hardware.

I stand by what I said. This jump is just not as big in visuals as the leap from software to hardware rendering, or 2D to full 3D. If anything, the main focus of this generation should be storage, allowing for longer games to be made. In which, yes, the Wii is horribly crippled.

Hay guys, Microsoft is using HD-DVD And Sony's using BLU-Ray... LETS USE REGULAR DVDS HAHA!

I look forward to a time when I can shell out for a high-def box and experience this.

When you get to that point, check out LCD projectors. They cost about the same as large flat-screens, but are so much bigger. Drawbacks: must have home theater, as there's no onboard sound; can project on wall, but need a reasonably dark room; expect to spend $300-$500 every couple of years to replace the light bulb.

You can get a ~30 inch CRT HDTV for sub $500. The clarity is flawless.

Edit: Not quite sub $500, but pretty close.

Microsoft uses regular DVD's. The HD-DVD drive is only for movies.

The only thing that's stopping me from going with the projector is the fact that the room I'm going to be using is pretty bright until around full dark. Thinking of the new FFL sets from Samsung right now. Not sure if I'm going to manage to be patient enough to wait for May for that though. Having nearly unreadable text on my 27" standard TV is getting kind of rough.

My last paycheck was for less than half the cost of that

It'll be a while

I'm in a situation like that now. The way the apartment is laid out, there isn't any place to put the projector where it's dark during the day. So I use 480p during the day and the higher resolutions at night when I play games. Works out fine.

I use the S-Video input on my 20" widescreen LCD monitor I don't know what resolution that is with the whole 'p' 'i' dealybobs, but it makes things look pretty shiny. Better than my old chunky TV anyways.

(On my own little side-note, I'm planning on getting the Wii because I would most likely enjoy playing the games more. Nothing system-selling for me on the PS3 or 360 yet. Once the big RPGs start coming 1-2 years after the launch, we'll see.)
