Why? Dreamweaver is pretty expensive and vanilla notepad would be a chore to work with on anything bigger than a ten minute job.

While notepad is admittedly a very basic text editor, the idea that websites should be hard to do with a simple text editor is rather 1997. If your markup is hard to read or reason through with a simple editor, it's probably too complicated.
