An IRC chatroom about RPGMaker (95 at the time, eventually moved on to 2000!). Started back in '99. The room's been dead for a couple of years now, but I still talk to a few of the people from there, including one guy who leveled up with me on WoW from release date.

Jesus, waaay back it was a free form roleplaying room on Prodigy.

Then came Gemstones III on AOL (when it was free)
But I was not part of the community.

Then came my MUD, Prophecy (Belgariad based), played there for 6 active years, still log multiple times a week to talk to old friends.

A DAoC Guild after that.

EC After that.

A Final Fantasy community which eventually split off into Kraptastica. Actually, that wasn't the first, but the communities before that are too embarrassing to mention.

My first online community would probably be the Wings of the Falcon guild on the Saryrn server back during the old days of EQ1.

Embarrasing thing about it, was that I got EQ1 first, let my parents try it, they got hooked, and my dad ended up making friends with a couple of the members in WoTF. They joined and got my brother and I in as well.

Anyway, after that was EC, which I joined around the age of 14.

I never really stuck around anywhere else before that.

Thank Jesus, I don't feel so nerdy anymore. I used to be a member of a gaming swapping/chat forum, don't recall the name cause I was four or five at the time and just wanted games. I remember everyone talking about Commander Keen and tried to get my dad to make it come out faster. I used to think he could talk to anyone on the internet so I figured he could talk to the people who made it

I had a level 45 warrior with +magic gear and teleport. I was able to fight three rogues/sorcs at once and win. And it was all legit.

And then, the hacking programs started cropping up. It literally made me cry, seeing skilless nubs accomplish more in five minutes than I did in a month.

Thief: "I have come to a realisation. Dragons are not real in a general sense, but they may exist in certain specific cases."
Fighter: "Like how quantum mechanics describes how subatomic particles can spontaneously pop into existence at random!"
Thief: "No, that's stupid and stop making up words."

GemStone

Then GemStoneIII, and later DragonRealms with Trevori, where I stayed for about 4-5 years. It eventually went to the web and SIMU did some really crappy stuff, and I left. It's probably one of the only things that I can say was actually BETTER when it was a part of AOL...

I suppose I was around 13 or 14 when I joined here as Lokist.

Looks like quite a few people joined around that age.

I started playing checkers on the Internet Gaming Zone (which is like MSN Games or some such now) back when I first got online in like '96 or so. Got to know some of the regulars pretty well, so I guess that would be my first online community.
