Warriors is definitely a rental IMHO. This is why you should just break down and subscriber to something like Gamefly. $21.95 a month for two games out at a time. Saves a bunch of cash really and I barely ever buy console games anymore.

You realize that only character designs were done by Toriyama, right? You realize that just because you don't like DBZ doesn't mean you can't like other things, right? You know that he's done character designs in other beloved games like Chrono Trigger, right? You know that Toriyama is actually one of the most respected anime artists to have ever lived, right?

Right?

Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Not really.

Because of the low graphical ability of the sytem of the time I wasn't bothered by Chrono Triggers toons. On the higher end systems you can definately tell. And because the characters are CONSTANTLY ON THE SCREEN IN SOME FORM it annoys the crap out of me. I do not like his character designs or his animation style. And because I CAN like something that isn't DBZ is why I asked if people would recommend it if they found something similar as annoying to them. Like for instance, say the menu system annoyed the crap out of you. Would you recommend the game despite this constant irritation?

I don't think it's that unfair of a question.

I have the same problem with the art style and animation as you seem to. Where i'm at now i just got Trunks the Monk and after a while of playing the style just doesn't bother me that much. The game is fun enough on its own to get past the fact that many of the characters in the game have DB-something counterparts in animation style.

What's getting me worse is the british voice actors combined with the DBZ art. That's just flat out odd, but like the art itself, its starting to wear off a bit too.

TEMPLAR, not a monk! And Angelo... I dunno. I don't like his VA. The others are great. Jessica isn't a mean bitch like Maribel in 7, but she's not some shy demure chick either. Yangus rocks But I find myself not liking Angelo as much as the others.

I always get a chuckle when the King sneaks up on him and startles him. The way he poses is so... uncharacteristic of him, it makes me laugh But yeah, Yangus is the dumbest looking one of the bunch, but the one with the most (and best) personality.

So far I've only gotten to level 12 or so, and finally got Jessica in my party.

Been really taking my time exploring stuff and making sure to level up as much as possible. Finding this game to be really enjoyable so far.

By the way, after you get level 12 or so, make sure you head back to the first town and kill the Axoraptor (can't think of which gate you go out, or the name of the town D . Essentially, go out a gate (the one that has the peasant lady in front of it is closer) and follow the wall to the right until you find em. Killing him gets you a silver monster coin (sells for 500G) and behind him is a treasure chest with a Seed of Life.

Anyway, stuff I suggest doing when you start off (for those who are going to be getting it, but don't have it yet):

1. Pick the weapon you plan to use as the hero, if you're going sword, put the first 4 skill points you get into sword for the attack power bonus. If you're going for spear or boomerang, don't put points into them right away, but instead go for 8 points in Courage. It essentially gives you infinite Chimera Wings as long as the hero is alive and has 1 MP. (If you're going sword, but 4 points in sword, then 8 in Courage.)

2. For Yangus, don't worry about weapon skills, just put 10 points into Humanity so he'll get the same heal spell that the hero automatically learns at level 3.

Edit: And I agree with the above statements about Yangus, he's the best character so far in the game VO and personality wise.

When you get Angelo (Essentially right after you get Jessica) you get the Zoom spell, but it is nice to have it a bit earlier. I personally use Angelo's Zoom more often just because he's got the larger MP pool.

I'm really torn with the Hero. The sword skills are DAMN nice, but the boomerang has the potential to do so much more damage per hit since it hits so many enemies at the same time. The sword specials kick a lot more ass than the boomerang ones do. Tough call =/

A question.

I'm trying to find the path that will lead to the goddamn hill where I can make a wish. It's the main quest for Ascantha and I just can't find the damn path. I've combed the river on both sides going up-stream towards the lake but for the life of me I can't find it. So, anyone know where it is?

Directly WEST of the house where the old dude is, is a ravine leading down to the riverbank. Follow the riverbank east until you reach the cave.

I had that problem myself, at first... but if you've gone more than 10 yards in any direction, you've gone too far It's literally RIGHT by the house.

Ya i found it after checking Gamefaqs, but then i went down to my cousin's house. I'm now done with that whole bit and am level 19ish so i'm a good 2-3 levels over where i should be. It's kinda odd.

Irritating that they say, "Go up stream!" but no one i talked to said a goddamn thing about the path being that close to the house.

Oh, and do you ever get and Improved Thief's Key to open up all the chests that are saying the Thief's Key doesn't work for?

Yeah, but I'm not sure exactly WHEN. I'm just starting the swordsman's cave now, immediately after that storyline. I didn't quite level up as much as you so I've been levelling a bit and working on upgrading my party's gear.

At first I thought the similarities between this game and DBZ were just that the art style was done by the same guy, so they looked visually alike.

Then I found out that it runs deeper than that. That there is a darker side to the similarities.

Was that the first time you've ever done that with one of the characters? (Note, I think only the Hero does the spiky hair thing.)

A lot of my boss fights go like: Use Defend as hero, and heal as needed, and psyche up Yangus to full, then smash boss. Repeat until boss is completely smashed.

And it wouldn't be Courage level 10, it'd be Courage level 100.

Actually, I have videos of all four characters hitting super-high. The Hero is FAR, FAR better to use at super high due to Falcon though.

I can super-high YAngus, give him Oomph, and he'll hit for around 500ish with Parallax. I can super-high the hero, give him oomph, have him use Falcon and hit for 650 easy. Took down Don Mole in 2 hits that way.

I can handle the character dependent inventory, though that doesn't mean it's a good thing to have. Giving all of your commands at the beginning of the battle and then having every participant in the battle act in a random order is not a good thing to have. The only reason DQ8 will get away with it, is because it doesn't have Lunar's annoying "enemies level with you and get even more powerful than you" bullshit. At least if the battles in DQ8 are too hard, you can gain some levels to get past them. That wasn't the case in Lunar. Lunar punished you for levelling up.

And GOD DAMN is the armor and shit in Argonia expensive I've been working my ass off and have nearly 8000 gold, to get all the upgrades it offers would cost me 26,300. That's my one real gripe with the game so far. The amount of gold that's dropped by enemies doesn't keep up with the amount of money it costs to buy new items. I guess they want to make each item have a special value when you get it, but they could have done the same by including some more gear laden chests in dungeons and such or allow for more item creation witht he alchemy pot.

I'm slightly disappointed in some of the sword skills in this latest installment. DragonCut and MetalCut don't do nearly enough damage against their respective targets (Dragons and Metallic Enemies). The new FalconCut definitely makes up for it. Old FalconCut was just a guaranteed first-hit, with 75% damage. The new one is two hits for 60-75% damage each.

Has anyone here tried out Yangus with a Scythe? He's BRUTAL with an Axe, but I get the impression that I'm missing out on a lot since he can't steal. I never really bothered with thief skills in Dragon Warrior games prior to this one, are they worth it at all?

So ya, before you fight Dhoulmagus (right after helping the prince find his heart) be sure to be at least level 30 or so with the best gear. Not "the best you can afford", but go out and just grind on shit for a few hours to buy stuff. Also be prepared for two hard fights back to back with no chance to rest. This way you won't get excited when you barely squeek out a victory on his first form to only die horribly on the second because you're down to fucking nothing and you've used all your items.

If you do die on the second fight, when you come back be prepared for him to have a new group damage ability that can fully wipe your party if he uses it both attacks, which he does.

I just fucking gave up and am reverting back to an earlier save so i can just grind for hours to be able to afford the gear needed to stand a chance on him. All the monotony of an MMO with out the semi-tangible rewards!
