Pesco thought about the meaning of life:
Word just came down from corporate that all employees are to come in that are in Wal-Mart branches as long as the Wal-Mart is open. The only exception is mandatory evacs. I'm already hearing talk that the people evac'ing in the voluntary areas are going to be fired if they leave. That is coming from one of our branch administrators (think regional vice president). Our CIO and DR Coordinator were on the phone arguing with the CEO about this decision a little over 2 hours ago. I know this is going to make a huge staffing issue over the next few days but I think it is justified.

Most tech personel are being instructed to remain in the area as well, though I'm not as worried about us since our main site is north of Houston. We have people in Tech that live in the mandatory areas, so I'm not sure what is going to happen to them.

We are the only 24/7 bank in the nation and our CEO is dead set on keeping it that way it seems, even with this thing coming.

It is a total mad house where I am. I'm gonna do my prep shopping at around midnight tonight, it is just crazy to go now. I haven't decided if I'm gonna ride it out at our Ops Center or at my house. Not that it matters since they are about a mile apart.

Holy shit, what an asshole.

I suppose I'll talk to you all later.

My family and I are evacuating to the east. It might not be the best place, but at least we're getting out I suppose.

Pesco and I tried to round up some last minute things after work last night. Waiting until Midnight was a bad idea, it was a total mad house. We had to wait in line for almost an hour to get gas at 2 AM. We managed to come across a Kroger that was putting out palettes of bottled water, so we stocked up on that. Drove around for about an hour in search of C or D-cell batteries and couldn't find any, so we finally gave up. Couldn't find any camping laterns, either. I did manage to snag 2 gallons of Goldfish crackers. I am fat, I need my tasty treats.

Talked to some guys at work this morning, management is still cracking down on people wanting to jump town. Their asses better be at our operations center with us, otherwise I think they're going to have a hard time keeping everyone there.

Yea, all our Houston area branches are closing in 30 minutes if they already aren't. They didn't think the Wal-Marts would close until Friday so they wanted to keep everything open. But since everyone is leaving there is noone to keep the stores open.

BTW, there is no way out of town at the moment to the North. They are telling people to take back roads but all the back roads up here in the North are backed up now too. They need to hurry with getting all lanes open North on 45.

The place me and Tok will be when this thing goes down is becoming a fortress. All day there have been nothing but trucks of supplies. Our once training room is now full of food, water and fuel. They are setting up bedding as well. There are motorcycles parked in the building so that we can actually get around in the traffic. This is amazing to watch.

Well not that any of you probably need it, but our house is open to anyone needing to evacuate. If you have to leave Houston/Surrounding, and you need a place to stay. Our place is kinda small, but we can put you up for a while if nessesary to ride out the storm.

Well we tried to evacuate but we couldnt get out, and with the way the storm is turning we are just going to ride it out at home.

This will certainly be interesting.

Okay so maybe coming to stay with us wouldn't have been the best Idea anyway, since its not hitting where orginally projected, it's coming strait for us. Just north of Sebine Pass. It will hopefully lose plenty of power once it hits land, but we are definitely gonna get slammed.... At least we're not coastal, so no water walls to hit us.

No kidding. I went to sleep about a half an hour after hearing a "thump thump" and assumed it was going to get worse.

The "thump thump" was some branches falling and that aws the worst.

Rain wasn't too bad at work for me and Pesco. We had to work through the night, though. By the time I went home this afternoon, I had worked 28 hours straight. Our power is still out, but all of our servers are running off our generator, so we're doing fine. Still have another 48 hours of fuel for it. It ended up being a good practice run of our disaster procedures, though.

Checked on my house after I got off work, just some leaves and sticks around the yard that I'll have to rake up. Power is still out at my house too, so I'm staying with Pesco until it gets back on. Other than that, it was a pretty crappy hurricane. I checked aggregate rainfall for the area this morning on the NWS site and we got less than 2 inches.

Sucks to be in Louisiana, though.

I dont know if that is some sarcasm that I didnt catch because I was woken up at 7 AM to take the boards off of the house, but Lousiana has everything to do with Hurricane Rita, it veered north and hit right at the state line putting almost all of Louisiana on the dirty side, and I think I heard about some levees breaking again under the rain.

If it was sarcasm, well then look at this as a news post for people who didn't know.

I'm sitting here across town from where the rest of my family is staying (Lafayette, LA) in my grandma's boyfriend(sorta)'s house.

I'm on AOL and I'll be finished typing this post before the damned post icons load. I think I'm connected at 28.8kbps. Anyway, I'm not used to it.

Uh, yeah, as Kegwen posted I am fine. My house is probably fine (I heard the worst of the damage was from trees and we don't have any around our house), but I'm kinda worried about someone going and stealing my shit. They won't let us back into town for at least a week, I've heard.

Actually, my grandmother's sister (the person whose house I've been staying in(but not tonight)) has some Herbal Essence shampoo, so my hair stayed freakin' beautiful throughout the storm.

It's a shame they do not have a matching shower gel, so I had to use Suave lavender. Herbal Essences does make a nice matching no-frizz hair gel spray though.
