I am glad I generally don't watch any Japanimation other than those that have giant robots beating the sheet out of each other, or spaceships doing such.

I object most heartily to the first post. Chobits is a shonen anime, not a shoujo. Cardcaptors is about as close as you can get to a genre definition of Shoujo, though.

Frequently naked androids: Shounen

Little girl growing up and facing trials: Shoujo

Ok, yeah it has fan-service. That means it can cater to guys and girls. But seriously, it's about a love story, it's filled with cute stuff and it's drawn by CLAMP (don't bring up Miyuki-chan).

I've read the whole thing and honestly, it's more shoujo than anything. The story is 100%. The art is half and half.

P.S. You should be slapped for using the horrible 4kids name instead of the title of the good series.

You're right. I'm so, so ashamed (Admitedly the 4kids version was my first exposure to CS).

However, I stand by my original post. Chobits is certainly a shounen title. Romance alone doesn't make something Shoujo (Consider Inuyasha), and being from Clamp *certainly* doesn't. They do a fair amount of shounen or mixed work.

As for cute stuff, that's mostly unviersal for Clamp titles. And even it is rather toned down in Chobits (Try comparing Chobits to Magic Knights Rayearth )

Of course, the bottom line is that there's no iron guidelines for what is shounen, or shoujo, or seinen (Which is the actual catagorization of the magazine that originally published Chobits). It's just a genre and marketing generalization.

The ultimate trump-card to "WTF IS THAT?" anime (Shounen vs Shoujo) would be X.

Bloody, violent, boobies all over the place... but... wtf?

It breaks my braens attempting to classify it.

omg BEST SERIES EVAR!

BTW, the manga X > anime X.

Seriously, read the manga. I have the movie and the manga and the manga is SO much better.

The problem with X the anime movie was trying to tie in (and wrap up) virtually the entire manga series in one two-hour period. However I'm fairly sure it's shoujo, since it has weedy little angsty boys, willowy girls, and not all shoujo is exempt from blood/T&A, as CLAMP has included both in their anime, and I'm pretty sure they did X/1999.

But most shows match their mangas fairly well, with the exception of Hellsing and some others.

CLAMP did make X, which makes it just that much more confusing.

The only problem with X is that it exists.

Oh and yeah, I generalize shoujo and shounen too. Shounen = ARRRGH WHAAA ACTION, Shoujo = happy stuff generalized.

Stuff like Love Hina, Chobits, even I dunno...Gundam 08th MS Team can have Shounen and Shoujo in it.

The picture of Chii and Sakura was perfect because it's all happy and frilly and d'awww. And I was making fun of Naruto (the character) for being retarded. (Not that he isn't awesome.)

This thread was an excuse to show the picture. And now...yeah.
