the private seller listing was about 14k

Noxhil2 impressed everyone with:
Blue book says 12,500 for a trade in, 14,000 private party, 16,000 suggested retail value.

Do I hear an echo in here?

And online selling seems to disobey blue book values. People in general can get more for their car because they have a wider range of people to sell to. There is a larger selection of cheaper cars, too, though.

Indeed, but you seem(ed) to think that they are selling for 20k.

No, I saw a listing for 20k by a dealer. That's all I'm saying.

And, yes, it was a 2003 with 30k miles on it.

I guess I just wish I could get near dealer price because, well, this.

The big question now is how many miles would you trust an Audi (S4) with? They should be pretty reliable, I imagine. Getting a used one with 40,000 shouldn't feel too awful, right? What about 50,000-60,000 miles? Where is it going to need extensive repairs/maintenance? I know for a good build 50,000 miles should be nothing but I want to make sure I don't get something on its deathbed. Especially important since I'll be driving the shit out of it on Saturdays and Sundays.

Ok, deathbed is an exaggeration, I bet some of these could go to 150k with good maintenance and still be kicking, but it's hard to tell with used cars. So I guess I want to know when the car has lost most of its "newness".

Everything I read about the S4 makes me salivate and realize it is precisely the car for the job. You guys rock.
