I personally am glad that this is over. Not for the point that the poor woman died or that I am tired of the media frenzy over something like this, but because this country has been torn in two over something so emotional. Alot of it was fed by the media which was inturn fed by the families though so.. yeah.

I totally posted this before you.
You lie! I am.. oh?
Maybe I am wrong, but I was under the impression that even lying in bed, 2 days without any sort of water was the longest you could go... let alone over a week.
And yeah, about time, maybe now the media can focus on something worthwhile

You know.. i have mixed feelings about this.
If he had let them in there for.. what? a week? because they didnt know when exactly it would happen.. what would they have done? What other act of desperation would they have tried to do to "Keep their baby alive"? I think its just sad with the fact that it got to the point where the husband felt that he couldnt have them anywhere near her even while she was dying.

True they might of tried something, so I agree guards needed to be kept nearby, but when or if you ever have children, do you want to be told that you can't be there when they die? That you can't cherish every moment they have left in this world even if they aren't fully here anymore?

According to CNN her siblings were at her side about 10-15 minutes prior, her parents even sooner.

Read the bit before that:
quote:
The Schindlers and their other two children earlier requested permission to be with Schiavo during her last moments, but police barred them from being with her, O'Donnell said.O'Donnell, one of the family's spiritual advisers, said Schiavo's family was "begging to be at her bedside...but are being denied."
Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband and guardian, controlled who could visit her and when.
David Gibbs, a lawyer representing the Schindlers, said his clients were "with Terri up until 10 minutes before she passed.
So they had one of their regular visits, were leaving and then found out their daughter was actually in the last stages of dying and weren't permitted back in.

Considering she is his wife and his in-laws and their zealots have put him and his fiance through hell, I don't blame him for being selfish.

My take on it is that Terri died 15 years ago. All those involved were just too selfish to let her go, all at different degrees.
But this is a good thing, so the family can finally let go.

Starving to death is dying in peace?
She went twelve days with no food or water of any kind. She was bleeding from the mouth and eyes.

Curious as to your source on this one. Two or three days ago, the media was quoting her father as saying she 'looked pretty good'.

Yeah, that's the only problem I had with how they did it.
Extremely painful death, even if she WAS brain dead.

Yar, if you want to end someone's suffering, then end their suffering then and there. Don't make them suffer more by dying slowly over two weeks. It amounts to torture no matter how much Morphine they had her pumped up on.

But if you have no brain to process feelings of pain, what does it matter?

They morphine they gave her was a very tiny amount to simply relax her muscles.

She had a brain, it just didn't work right anymore. Otherwise she wouldn't be making noises when her father and mother talked to her.

All she was going on was her brain stem. And the noises she made she didn't make because her parents were talking to her.

JooJooFlop had this to say about the Spice Girls:

Then how come she didn't make it until after they asked her a question?
And to add on, she was making noises throughout, nonsensical, the parents and lawyer left out that part.
She had been in a state of being brain dead for 15 years. It's good that she is gone now.
Starvation was the only route to go because there were no euthanesia laws.
And for the parents, they need to suck it up and go by her husbands wishes, he's been pronounced the legal guardian time and again by the courts. Razor fucked around with this message on 03-31-2005 at 01:34 PM.

Stimulus / response, I would guess. Allmost a reflex.

I take it you haven't seen CT scans of her brain, have you? It is, essentially, a puddle of goo in the back of her skull. There is no way she could have made a coherent response with basically no functioning brain matter.
And since when does "BLEEEEAHHHH" constitute a response to anything?
BTW, here's the image of her CT scan compared to a healthy brain:

Thanks to Florida's anti-euthanasia laws. You really think anyone wanted her to die like that? That was the only legal option.

'didn't work right'? Understatement much? A large portion of her brain was liquified, I think that consitutes slightly more than 'not working right'
Listening to that reminded me of this debate I had with a guy who insisted that cloning her a new brain would fix everything.
