quote:
Judge Charles Wilson, who said he "strongly dissented" from the majority opinion, said refusing the parents' appeal "frustrates Congress' intent, which is to maintain the status quo by keeping Theresa Schiavo alive until the federal courts have a new and adequate opportunity to consider the constitutional issues raised by plaintiffs."
In other words, "Congress worked so hard to get this case in our laps, it seems like such a shame to simply let it go."

Maybe I'm just being alarmist here, but when this inevitably goes before the Supreme Court, wouldn't anything but putting down the Legislative and Executive branches' little end run put the whole checks and balances thing in question? The Judicial system has it's own inner workings, and it seems like Congress and the President attempted to circumvent it, and now that the Judicial process is heading for the highest court in the land, if they uphold Congress's move, well...just doesn't seem like there's any way for Terry Schiavo to live at the same time as everyone being happy.
I think the Supreme Court will refuse to hear the case on the basis of the fact that there is no federal jurisdiction because the law granting/forcing jusrisdiction is unconstitutional and absurd. Thus, the Supreme Court doesn't have to worry about actually hearing the case and rendering a decision, allowing them to actually deal with the business of the nation at hand.

From the book of Trillee, chapter 3, verse 16:
They were saying that Jeb Bush was trying to get Terri out of the hospice and into state care...
That was already slapped down.

Didn't realized that they slapped that down in particulare, just the appeal to the federal court. >.< gods this has gotten way way to confusing...
If Terri were any other mammal, not opting for euthanasia would be considered very cruel indeed.
quote:
A sleep deprived Pvednes stammered:
It's a pity there's no legal route for true voluntary euthanasia. While what made her who she was is gone forever, all of her lower brain functions are still very active. It's like keeping an injured animal trapped in pain.If Terri were any other mammal, not opting for euthanasia would be considered very cruel indeed.
Even if it existed, it would get shut down ten ways from Sunday. I mean, they barely got the tube pulled.
quote:
"This is not a death with dignity," Mahoney said just before the Supreme Court decision was announced. "If Terri were an animal, she would not have to endure this."
Yeah, if she were an animal she'd have been shot in the back of the head or had her throat cut and hung upside down to bleed out fifteen years ago.

You, sir, are twisted.
When Terri Schiavo dies, will her parents charge Michael Schiavo and the judges who opposed their will with murder?
I'm guessing this situation won't die when Terri does

I could definitely see a civil case. Wrongful death or something like that. I doubt criminal charges could be filed.

The way I look at it, she committed suicide by being bulimic. That is probably why her parents are so opposed to letting her go. She committed a mortal sin according to their religion.
If they did try a civil case, they would lose.

It's not exactly suicide if she didn't play an active role in making the decision.
She actively decided to enguage in dangerous behavior. Maybe not suicide, but it is on her own lookout.

Yes, she did. But do you think her parents and their lawyer will see that? No. "If she had an eating disorder, You should have done something to stop her before she died!" Or something to that effect.I honestly do not see her parents stopping now...
