I've been considering starting up SWG purely for JTL.They just...DON'T MAKE space sims anymore for some unknown reason, but they're one of my favorite generes.
Seriously, it's like Freespace 2 just awestruck everyone in the industry into 'we can't top that anyway'-mode.
It's a real mystery to me why they just stopped making them, it's not like space sims were some kind of tiny budget genere, Wing Commander 3 and 4 were behemoths of sales and production cost in their time, X-Wing and Tie Fighter moved tons of units iirc, even Freespace one did well enough for a sequel, did people stop buying joysticks for their computers and thus couldn't appreciate space sims any more?
A Star Wars based space sim with 30-40 people duking it out escorting bombers, trying to cripple capships, etc would be extremely fun, I'm not even a fan of SW but the background lends itself perfecty to this kind of game.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
ok now.... the question - are you ever going to make an updated intro? is there a way to get an arial view of the town?

Even at 60 there's tons of shit to do, providing you find a decent raiding party. Did most of Strath then UBRS twice in a night on friday. I may not have won anything useful atm (Woo, the +9 sta bracer enchant.. which I can't use for 54 skillpoints yet..), but I had a whole shitload of fun.
Also had an argument about my imp. 550 hp, motherfucker!

Freespace 2 wasn't even that great. It was GOOD just not as good as some of the best. My favorite space sims were the open-ended ones, games like Independence War 2 and, to a lesser extent, Freelancer.
Space sims were the best. With no terrain to render, massive capitol ship models with high levels of detail ran smoothly on the same hardware that was taxed by anything remotely similar in a land-based game.
Why they stopped making them is truely a mystery for the ages.

Freelancer had shitty AI. I could turn off my engines (Save for cruise, obviously) during the entire game and just "headbutt" enemies with relative ease.
The fact that they stopped making mods for it because it was getting popular shut me down on the game, even if I still own it and know where the CD is and could play it on a whim.

When I was in the industry, most companies waited for other people to try something "risky." Risky, of course, being something that was out of the norm. So if a 3d shooter sold real well, you'd have a bunch of other companies piggy-backing on the 3d shooters because they know it sells. That's why you saw types of games come in clumps - because no one wants to be the guy who trys something and fails when there are so many other "sure things" around. It stifles innovation a bit, but that's how the system worked.
It was pretty diffrent in '99 too... if you didn't make a top seller, you pretty much wasted your time. Right now, if I remember the charts correctly, EA games has most of the top sellers, which is not a good thing.

In the 2003 holiday season, EA's only competition for the top spot was Activision's (Nasdaq: ATVI) Tony Hawk's Underground and True Crime. In contrast, this past holiday season was filled with highly anticipated super-blockbusters, most notably Take-Two Interactive's (Nasdaq: TTWO) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Konami's (NYSE: KNM) Metal Gear Solid 3 on the Sony (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 2, and Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox exclusive Halo 2. Take-Two and Sega's $20 sports games also took a bite out of EA's sales and profits this year.

First point: yes, but the Combat Upgrade is coming in a month or so and it will seriously rock (making it almost a completely new game).
Second point: not sure, buy the cd keys or get someone to buy it for you and e-mail the keys?

I can't remember if non-players can read the SWG forums anymore. If not, no biggie, it'll save Zaza some bandwidth. Mortious fucked around with this message on 02-07-2005 at 02:37 AM.

Accolade badges count VASTLY towards unlocking your Force Sensitive slot as they're so rare and only given out by CSR's/DEV's.
Go get all the location POI badges and you'll probably be very close to unlocking it.

a handful of location badges, including the three Jedi ones (Ben's old house, Exar Kun's temple, and the ruined temple on Dantooine) A couple moderately dangerous ones, (Sarlacc pits, krayt dragon skeleton), a masterhood in one profession, and a few content badges, (Both warrens, Nym's, Jabba's, and Imperial Themeparks) and POOF..
You are now open to the frustrations of the Village. (Mos Jedi)

Oh, and CSR badges dont count for shit.

Gadani had this to say about Reading Rainbow:
So now you become a jedi by getting badges?
Yep, instead of grinding through dozens of professions, you just have to go to enough places and experience enough events/instances/etc.
And if I had enough time, I might just have to come back to SWG for JTL and to try and make a Dark Jedi character to work for Mort. Katrinity fucked around with this message on 02-07-2005 at 12:54 PM.

I want the old way back... I coulda ground out proffessions WAY easier than this shit now.. except maybe Image Designer..
It would have taken longer, but I'd prefer to do a ton of different shit, than have to deal with the jackassery that is the Village..
