A simple question, because I never really looked into it: Are there stat differences between races (Even if it's just a point)? I seem to recall that racial abilities were pretty well the same (And they are, more or less), but I don't remember anything specific on actual starting stats..

Like one or two points, I think. It's all pretty class-specific (Warriors have high str, etc).

Which is good, since it encourages people to be different things.

I'm going to start with an Orc Warlock, though chances are I'll only play him until ~30-40 or so, then use him to twink an Orc Warrior and/or Tauren hunter.

Well Monica finnaly decided that she was interested enough today, so we talked it over and ended up with a couple copies on pre-order for Tuesday.

Night Elf Hunters, Both.

Although she may also toy around with a Paladin. I'm not sure anything else besides the Hunter caught my interest enough when I played with them, so more than likely Hunter all the way here.

All my friends are trying to talk me into turning to the Alliance, but I just don't want to.

I am thinking that instead of undead I am going to play an Orc Warlock so that UBT and I can start out together. Unless he decided to be Tauren, then I don't know what I am going to be. I really, really like the Warlock. I got to play a Tauren Druid for a bit though, and she seemed fun too..

We shall see.

There's no reason why you shouldn't play both factions...except for the following...

-The Alliance is weak
-MC Hammer dance > Saturday Night Fever
-Night Elves are so cliche
-Fae plays Alliance
-Delidgamond plays Alliance
-I bet Satan plays Alliance, too

Orc females have this grunge grind thing and they do this thing with their ass and...it's awesome.

Naenae : It's not very hard to run from the Orc newbie lands, over to Thunder Bluff and the Tauren Newbie lands Or vice versa. Running through The Barrens is the worst bit, but if you stick near the Gold Road, then it isn't very hard at all. I ran a level 10 tauren hunter over to Sen'Jin Village (Right ouside the orc newbie lands) to get a tiger at the Echo Isles nearby, and it was very easy. I got aggro ONCE, when I strayed off the path in Durotar, but other than that, I had no issues at all.

You'll miss out on many early quests, but for the important ones (IE : For your warlock summons), you can easily take a Wind Rider from Thunder Bluff, over to Orgrimmar. It only costs ~50 copper to head over there. And even if you don't join him in the newbie lands, when you hit level 11 or so, you'll both be heading into The Barrens to hunt together, so...

I don't know where I got the idea Trolls could be Warlocks.

But as far as the item transfers go... is it even possible to trade stuff between factions, assuming I have a friend of the opposite faction who will help?

Is there even a way to trade items between characters of the same faction(on the same account) without using the auction house or another player?

I could always mess with the races to make them all Horde, but I'd rather not if I can get around it.

You can trade in the same faction using the mail system. Costs 30 copper per letter .. but you can send stacked items. Or find a friend who can do the trade all at once.

HoneyBunny-Gnome or Ogre
NE Druid
Paladin
Undead
Maybe a Tauren.

I will make a character or two on PvP for when I am in the mood for that.

The only way that I can think of, is possibly by having your friend sell the item you want to trade, to a vendor. And I think it MIGHT show up on the vendor's buy list, but I could be wrong about that.

Yes, but there's an intelligence test before you're allowed to do so. The game tests you by making you figure out the terribly difficult and complicated in-game mailbox system Those who cannot pass the test, cannot trade items between their characters, without using the AH or without using a friend!

You're full of it. The mailbox system isn't that difficult to use. (Money slots at the bottom of the letter, a place you can put 1 item, then a place where you put the person you want to send to at the top, a place for a message, and then it tells you the cost of the letter, which is always 30 copper, and theres a send button. I'm not sure on what C.O.D.s are, so I never use them. ) I know for a FACT you can send items between characters on the same account using the mailbox, but it takes an hour for the item(s)/money to be sent. I am not sure if you can send mail from Alliance to Horde or vice-versa however.

And about Alliance newbie areas sucking: Human, Night Elf, and Tauren newbie areas are my favorite so far. Dwarf/Gnome and Orc/Troll are my least favorite.

I was being sarcastic with my comments about the mailbox system being an intelligence test

And I just hated the Human newbie area. From levels 5-8 there's maybe 2 good quests I could do, leaving me just slaughtering for EXP (I like doing quests, damnit). The first couple quests at the first mine were nothing bad, but the Jasperlode mine (Whichever one has the Geomancers) was hell for me as a warrior... The night elf one is either too small, not very well-planned out when it comes to spawns, or just too damn crowded, as I always have problems doing my quests there.

My only problem with the NE Newbie areas was being so cramped at first, but they are by far my favorite atmospherically. The only negative to the Human lands was running around having to fend off a bunch of 12 year old assholes, but that has nothing to do with the zone itself. It's also a LOT larger than the NE areas and you can roam and see more... The Dwarf Lands have none of those problems, but they are so blaaaaaand, except for IronForge, the area right around it and the City itself kick ass. I liked the Troll starting area. The Undead newbie areas would have to be my least favorite due to a combination of assholes, and layout. The assholes like the human lands of course, being a problem with the players and not the actual area.

CoD is cash on delivery.

Case to show how it (should) be used: I go around the auction house saying that anyone who sends me nine wool via mail will get an eight slot bag for two silver peices (A big discount from buying it at the AH). I check my mailbox every day, and find wool out the wazoo. I go to the tailor, buy the fine thread I need, process the wool into bolts, and make the bags, then mail them back with a CoD charge of 2 silver. In order for the player to get their item, they MUST pay two silver. After that, I check my mailbox later and see a CoD item, and get my 2 silver back. And profit.

Btw, I want the font that they use for letters. It's really spifftacular.

You can trade between factions, but it's a pain in the ass.

Go to Gadgetzan, the Goblin Auction Headquarters, and put your stuff up for auction there. Then, assuming nobody grabs it, you can get on your Alliance (or have a friend do it) and bid on the stuff to get it.

Huge pain.

That and Gadgetzan is a complete pain in the ass to get to.

BTW, before they stopped the open beta, I took my 17 orc shaman down there. The really high level areas look like they are a pain in the ass to move around in, with everything having such large aggro ranges. Also, after seeing the Silithid area in there, I have to agree with what most people say, they are a primitive form of the zerg. Very much awesome there.

And Khyron, I never ran out of quests as my 11 Paladin. South of Goldshire there is a bunch of farms. Plenty of quests to do there.

Primary is gonna be an undead warrior. I was originally planning on a Tauren Shaman (even had the name picked out months ago: Shalogian), but I ended up playing a Druid during beta because my friend bitched (HE was the shaman, but we never ended up playing those two characters together anyway). We ended up making an undead warrior/rogue pair and I had hella fun playing the warrior, so I'm gonna have that be my primary now. Others:

Troll Mage
Tauren Druid/Shaman (haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm leaning towards druid)
Orc Warlock

And of course a billion other alts, possibly on other servers, but these four will probably get the most attention, in the order I listed. My warrior is also going to have hunter/priest backup from the two guys I'll be playing with most of the time. They're lucky schmucks, they get to play on release day, but I have to wait until Friday because of Thanksgiving and being home and all. Sucks.
