Actually, the more correct and common usage would be "antagonistic" as in the example from the dictionary you quoted.
Honestly--I can break the word down and knew what he meant, but that's an exceptionally uncommon usage. As a matter of fact, the word isn't listed in my Random House Unabridged at all, and my OED lists it as "rare" in a very short example quoting usage only from 1630 and 1842.
