Did you not even read the last line about multiple code paths?

So you're advocating that we now should be expecting them to make code for any type of CPU they're gonna run on? When half the time they don't bother optimizing at all?

Let's see, that's Intel P3, Intel P3 Xeon, Intel P4, Intel P4 Xeon, Multiple branches of Intel Celeron, AMD Duron, AMD Thunderbird, AMD Athlon, AMD Athlon XP, AMD Athlon MP, AMD 64, VIA C3, VIA C3-2 and probably a few others that I simply don't know about before we get into the arguments of PPC Chips, Alpha, or any kind of MIPS...

**EDIT**

Athlon XP shouldn't have been dual listed,,, that was meant to be XP then MP.

CPU choice is going to be influenced by code you're executing on it. If it's not, you're just out to spend cash and buy another toaster for your home.
