I'd also like to draw attention to the fact that in Somthor's second or third thread ever, all in the same day as the first, Lyinar's name was invoked in the same way it was invoked in this thread, and she more or less said flat out that she didn't like Somthor, thought he was a jerk, and wasn't going to defend him. Why did she say that? Because he had done something that most newbies don't. After being warned about annoying the public around here, he continued being a prick.
So invoking Lyinar's name (or "Lyinar 2.0" or "Lyinar Beta" or "Lyinar 1.0" or whatever) is about as classy as poking fun at the fact that Snoota works, or has worked, at McDonalds. Taken out of context, it seems clever, it seems witty. In context, you end up looking like a moron. Especially in that 1. she hasn't done it lately, and 2. when someone who shall not be named brought it up recently, she got herself flamed horribly for being...foolish. The issue has settled. If you didn't get the memo, clearly you don't pay enough attention. Bringing it up only opens doors to more flaming, and I'm sure you don't want to mindlessly pick fights. That's the equivalent of the pre-circus clown show before any of the real events take place.
Now. Give Maradon SOME credit. He took on a subject he knew he wasn't going to get happy happy fun-joy comments about, and unlike half the flames around here, he didn't make it in the "fuck you, fuck your mother, fuck the horse you rode in on and the donkey that fucks you up the ass you fucker" format that things degenerate into. Hate the argument, not the man. Bill's not an asshat...
...Unlike the subject he defends. Somthor, unfortunately, is one of those infectious situations. I can think of maybe two threads he's posted in where he didn't annoy someone. Hell he annoys me, though not usually (note I said "USUALLY") enough that I post anything about it. He can reliably be expected to say the absolute worst thing, to make sexist remarks, to hold people to (and attempt to "cleverly" entrap them with) standards he claims to adhere to (but of course doesn't). Even if the Wal*Mart joke has played out, there's still plenty to dislike about the man.
And very little unique to the individual to admire. He has fortitude? Hell most trolls have fortitude. That's why they're "trolls" and not "goblins of unhappiness". He's a foil to the community? I find that there's enough dynamism in the community to give everyone a foil to pretty much any standpoint in any argument. And I'm absolutely positive that someone will argue that particular point with me at some instant in the future. We have so much dynamism and so many foils, in fact, that we have to have special threads in which to resolve them, and had a forum dedicated (and which thrived) to the principle of venting that "oh yeah? sez you!" attitude so prevalent to opinion-giving around these parts.
So what does Somthor have? Is he clever? Not really. Does he make cunning arguments? Nope. Is he funny? Only as a target for far wittier men like Bloodsage and Parcelan, and hell even GYDYON, who is in many ways one of the more even-tempered individuals on the board, has put the boot in a few times. But surely, not contributing something to the board is not grounds enough to kick someone out? Of course. But contributing nothing and infecting many threads with stupidity and obnoxious commentary is.
And it is infection. As has been stated...you can ignore Somthor. But as has been stated, someone who chooses NOT to ignore Somthor will inevitably quote him to attempt to retaliate to the overwhelming, often-times obnoxious, many times inconsistent stupidity of his comments.

The point is that you are the one joining our community. One doesn't walk up to a bunch of strangers and start making demands about how they should adjust to your annoying idiosyncracies. One adjusts to the community norms or one finds a new community.
Here's another survival tip (and I'm going to hate myself for helping you this way): it's not a good idea to start quoting the rules to people and claiming they're in violation. Let the mods do their jobs, and if you have a particular whine you can press the "alert mod" button or PM Drysart.
If you honestly delude yourself into thinking you're a contributing member of the community, I suggest you make a poll to answer the question you've just asked. I'm smart enough not to hang around where I'm not wanted and can't contribute; my time is too valuable to do otherwise.

Call it a massive character flaw, but when someone can be a decent human being at least some of the time, I pity them when they are relentlessly abused, even if they are an ass most of the time.
And really, what has somethor done that's so bad? He's steadfastly wrong on nearly every issue he posts on. Is that so disruptive? Is a wantonly incorrect perspective really that much of a threat to one's personal wellbeing?
It's really not that hard to figure out. He needs to be exterminated.
