Yes. When Huntress was in the League, and Gotham was cut off from the rest of the USA during the "No Man's Land" situation, Superman fried the gun of someone getting ready to shoot her from behind while Supes was in orbit using telescopic vision to keep an eye on Huntress.

From the book of Leopold, the Voice of Reason, chapter 3, verse 16:
Waitaminute. I'm confused. One of the parts of the "Hero Quest" story saw Kyle blinding himself (in battle with Harlequin) to cut off a frightening sight--and further, aren't the power rings supposed to project an emergency shield around their wearers when they get knocked unconscious? And also, why wouldn't J'onn go intangible and let the missle pass through him?
(random thoughts)
1. Kyle would have to perceive Batman as a threat, he didn't. The ring is only useful for protection if the user has it on at the time. Kyle doesn't because he's aware that his imagination is part of what makes him GL, and he worries that a particularly scary nightmare might result in him triggering the ring in his sleep. So he sleeps with it off. Ras's goons went in while Kyle was sleeping, gave him the suggestion, then slipped his ring on. So he woke up without realizing the ring was on and his subconscious was working against him.
2. In the comic, they remote-detonated the missile. And a cloud of nanites can hold in the air for a while. Besides, they got J'onn off guard. There are other contingencies for J'onn (in the one special they did, regarding Batman's notes on how to take out the heroes, he had several contingency plans in operation for J'onn, many of them based on how the heroes have dealt with the Pale Martians; J'onn's actually one of the more vulnerable members of the League). Also keep in mind that J'onn would only have to be burning in a minute way for his powers to fail. Proximity to a lit match has been known to make J'onn lose all control of his powers.

Oracle is Barbara Gordon, the former original Batgirl who was shot through the spine by the Joker and is paralyzed from the waist down. Now she works as an information gatherer/collator/broker for a select number of superheroes and groups. She's the "invisible eighth member" of the League; most people don't realize that Oracle isn't a computer with an AI herself, since she disguises her face with a holographic projection. (the Injustice Gang found out, though, and Prometheus tried to kill her...he ended up getting his ass kicked)

Actually, as a result of the recent JLA storyline, J'onn isn't knocked silly by small fires. He's grown to tolerate simple fires now.
This is from JLA 89, from J'onn himself: "The flame and I are again bound, body and soul... but not as before.... I can withstand simple fire without pain. Candle flame or a burning forest, it matters not UNLESS they are flames of psychic significance. Flames of suffering, as the Burning creasted.... flames of passion as an Arsonist might create... flames of love, those those most of all I cannot bear."
What this means for Bat's counter measures is uncertain, though it probably means that the way we saw last time will probably be less effective.

1. Batman's plan almost killed J'onn. He lit the Black Forest of Germany on fire before Flash and WW got it (and him) under control. So clearly it works.
2. After the Obsidian Age SL, where J'onn was once again disabled by fire, he took a hiatus from the League to work on his crippling phobia and physical weakness to fire.
So yes, it may not be AS EFFECTIVE as it once was, but it is a vulnerability of all Martians, Green and Pale.

What's up with the 'electrical' Superman? I saw an article in the newspaper about it a long time ago, and when leafing through a JLA (or was it regular Superman) I saw him cut himself and complaining to Lois Lane about how weird it was to feel pain but that's it. I gather he has some sort of magnetic power but that's about it.

After Superman's "resurrection", his cells guzzled down a lot of solar energy rather rapidly, and it sort of fused his body's circuits, to the point he was rather painfully on the verge of overload. With a Lexcorp-made containment suit, Supes metamorphosed into an electromagnetically-powered self that was intangible (composed of pure energy), complete with a bevvy of new powers.
During the Millennium Giants event, Supes ended up ditching a lot of the excess energy, his body had healed enough to not guzzle energy beyond it's limits, and he went back to his normal range of powers.

The writer on Superman (in the modern day) at the time essentially just stole the idea and rehashed it, making the (I believe) Red K magical, etc, except that Superman Red and Superman Blue didn't really get along (for one thing they got in each other's way, and had different halves of the personality). That was resolved as part of the Millennium Giants SL when Supes got his old powers back. And thank God...was shaping up to be Superman's "Spider Clone" story.
They stuck a new writer and some new artists on Superman and it's gone MUCH better since then. [ 01-22-2004: Message edited by: Ja'Deth Issar Ka'bael ]

Both of those events happened BEFORE the Burning storyline (JLA 86-89 or so). In fact, the entire point of that storyline was to deal with what happened while J'onn was working on his phobia (And to bring bakc Plastic man as well). Apparantly the Martian phobia was genetically engineered into Martians to keep the Burning in check. The Burning is what the Martians were originally before the Oans messed with their genetics.
The end result of that storyline is the quote I listed above.
He adapts.
