Really, no matter what you call it it's just two different words for the same kind of drink, isn't it?

Soda, with Dr. Pepper as first choice and any Coke product second.

Coke. It is Coke or Soda. Anyone who calls it "Pop" is strange. In a bad way.

Yeah.

"I WANT A SODA!" I don't wanna end up with a diet drink. I'll be specific about it, thanks

It doesn't need another general term aside from "soft drink."

When someone asks me to get them a coke, I will ask "What kind". Most of the time the response is "Dr. Pepper", but if I hear "regular" you will recieve a Coke.

Yesterday, at a random car retailer:

Salesman: Good Evening sir, how can I help you?
Customer: I want a Ford.
Salesman: What kind?
Customer: A Honda.

Weird.

It differs with my family.

"Candace, we need to pick up some more soda"

While I'm sitting on my computer, and Mom comes in "Want a pop, Can?"

Being born and raised in mid-Ohio, I called it pop for the longest time. Since moving out of state, however, I call it soda.

Depends on where I'm living....

In California, where I grew up, we called all carbonated beverages "coke."

In Arkansas, I think we called it soda.

In Nebraska, it was pop.

In Maryland, it was soda.

In Germany, it's cola.

It's a soft drink.

Goddamn Americans and their goddamn freaky language.

In civilized countries, if you ask for a coke, you'll get a can/bottle of coke. If you ask for a soda, you'll get carbonated water, and if you ask for pop, you'll get a funny look. Also, people in civilized countries specify what they want, ie; coke, lemonade, whatever.
