It usually proves to be very unsettling to many people, and as such, I don't really agree with the whole decision, but since this isn't my board, I'll accept it - as long as things stay as they are.
As soon as people start getting banned for jack shit reasons, I'll open my trap and start hollering. Until that time, I'll just hang out and do whatever *shrug*
As KaL said, I've seen it happen on an IRC network I used to be the network admin of, and it's not pretty when it happens. Ofcourse, it doesn't have to happen, but when it does it usually leads to the complete and total annihilation of the IRC network/board/mud/whatever in question.

And that's why my post mentioned only the Sorc EC room. Personal and professional are separate there. I have strict rules for myself about what I can and cannot do. And I stick to them.

Yeah, and when he's drunk he's as straight as a friggin arrow. Nevertheless, some people felt his actions were inappropriate at the time and told me about it. They were looking out for you, believe it or not, because they didn't like what they were seeing. And it's got nothing to do with him trying to come between you and Mike. Hell, if anybody tried doing that to Syn, *knowing* she was with someone, don't you think there'd be a furor raised?

Oh, and as for the idea of the channel. People make channels based on copyrighted things all the time. I used to go to a #Discworld before. I've been in channels related to White Wolf things and using White Wolf names and such. Just because someone opens, or takes over the running, of a channel with a copyrighted name does not make it unprofessional in any way. I run the SorcNet EC fairly toward all, and I don't let personal feelings or reactions get in the way of the good of the channel. I would hardly call that unprofessional. I've never gone into a channel for the express purpose of making a snotty comment and then running off. I don't go into the channels of people I dislike and come in and go out and come in and go out and come in and go out. I don't sit in a channel and report things back to another channel, which then makes those in the channel come brings shit to the boards based on things that happened in a channel they can't be bothered to come inhabit themselves. And given the amount of flames that have come from things I've said or opinions I've displayed, then I can also say if I have an issue with someone, I take it up with them.

A post can have a 'tone', there might be a better expression for it but arguing semantics wouldn't get us anywhere. For example see the difference between 'You got a problem?' and 'Something botheríng you?' or 'Mind if you cut that out?' and 'Stop with this BS right now!'? You imply a tone by your choice of words, if I tell someone to fuck off and die they will generally assume it said in a brash manner even if they cannot hear my voice.
As for the other irc room I'm there sometimes, it's pretty quiet most of the time, when there's a conversation going it's usually friendly. I can't say I experienced any powerplays / vanitybans / etc as of yet.
