ACES! Another post by Bloodsage:
Reminds me of transporters--what an awesome weapon. But it was never used as one. I mean, really: how many times did the good guys dress up and transport of to bad-guy land when all they had to do was put a nuke on the transporter instead?
I guess it was considered to be unsporting to do it twice.
People far smarter than any of us have been working on ideas like this for many years. They know what will work and what won't with current tech.

I just love how a couple people on here who are still wet behind the ears, think they can argue Military Technology and tactics with a Ranking officer in the US Air force who has made a living out of training to kill people and coming up with new ways of killing people.People far smarter than any of us have been working on ideas like this for many years. How much would a mech weigh? 50 tons or something? Do you realize how much that would compress most terrains? One foot goes down... *squish*... the whole thing is on its side with one leg wedged into the ground.
Really, I could draw out a few thousand reasons as to why it would never work. Just take your pick and give it up already.
I'll give you one thing, though. Once man sets up colonies on the man, we'll be primed for the usage of giant robots. [ 09-07-2003: Message edited by: Where's Waisz? ]
I was mostly referring to Gears, which are pretty much one-man infantry fighting vehicles, maybe twice as tall as a man.

I checked and supposedly gundams only weigh 7tons. Yea, right.

Yes! We will defeat the Man by setting up colonies on it!
No, don't go back and see what I actually put.
Fuck you, tatsukaze, your post wasn't there when I started this one. [ 09-07-2003: Message edited by: Where's Waisz? ]

On your second question, it's a combination of the exotic and simple power requirements. I'm not up on all the technical details, though.
Chemical lasers use a chemical reaction to excite the atoms. "Normal" diode and Gas lasers use electric discharge to excite the atoms. So instead of zapping say a tube of H2, you get some hydrogen and florinee put them togather and you get som hydrogen floride and a burst of IR energy which the laser beam comes from.
Lasers really depend on two things iffn I remember rightly, power you put in and the materiel you are exiting. C02 lasers work well cause the Wavelength of you get from exiting it come out high UV/Microwave, Chemical laser I believe work cause the other way, they just put out a shit load of power. And By Buck Rogers weapons I meant things other than lasers, I would bother to write them down, but I have some beer with my name on it getting warm. [ 09-07-2003: Message edited by: Peter ]
