I was playing THE HULK on the xbox version the other night and did a pretty cool hbbk and hhhi, followed by a quick 12kd.

Go tell that to the soulcalibur.com forums, or Soul Calibur FAQ writers, or anyone that wants to discuss Soul Calibur moves

Last I checked at least, these were not soul calibur forums, but the evercrest forums Not everyone here speaks their speak. HEre, you may have to explain your terms...

Okay, let's go ahead and get all this said.

THE BUTTONS AND JOYSTICK

A = horizontal attack
B = vertical attack
K = kick
G = guard

7 8 9
4 N 6
1 2 3
The numbers correspond to the directions on the joystick. So 66 denotes double-forward, 214 is a quarter-circle back, and so on. 5 is sometimes abbreviated as N (neutral), which is what I personally prefer.

COMMON ABBREVIATIONS

GI = guard impact
GB = guard break
FC = fully crouched
WS = while standing
ST = stance change
QCF(B) = quarter circle forward or back, respectively (usually abbreviated with the numerical system, though)
HCF(B) = half circle forward or back (ditto)
G-cancel = sometimes put in a "special properties" section of command lists; this means you can cancel the move by pressing G. Most unblockables have this property, along with a handful of regular moves.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

+ means to make the input together (A+G for throwing, for example)
, means to push the buttons in succession. Duh
~ OR lowercase then uppercase means to quickly push the buttons in succession (like Mitsi's K~B or kB; Namco seems to prefer the small/large system)
[] means the input is optional
() means it's an alternate way of inputting the move
: means the input has to made during a specific frame or frames of animation (usually the frames where the move would hit and do damage; incidentally, this is sometimes called a "just frame" move)
* OR input in bold means that you have to hold the button

Pretty good for the most part. Except that [] denotes a hold. Bolding also works but sometimes it isn't a valid way to do it, for example in a pure text enviroment. Also you forgot _ which denote two optional presses. Kinda like 8WR 2_8B. The move could either be down 8WR 2B or 8WR 8B.

My brother just picked up the game today, and pestered me into playing.

...

Okay, so the game is decent, omg. ;(

I'd say Taki or Talim are my favorites at the moment, I also like Kilik too. For once I can actually beat my brother at a game, but we're still in the "wtf does this button do" mode.

Voldo is quite possibly one of the most frustrating characters i've had to play against so far, and that's just when the AI decides to be semi-good. I actually havea friend who is a bit of a voldo-phile, and he is an absolutely insane opponent to fight against.

With the amount of trips and ways to hold volda back with Seung mina it's pretty fair when I play using her, but when I go up against him with Talim, it's not pretty. Usually the only chance I get is to either GB, B+G, and 8K for a good ring out. GI, 8B, 2KA is the only chance at a non ring-out victory i get, as I can usuallly link up some pretty rough damage from there.

(As an afterthought, sorry to all of the non soul calibur freaks who have no idea what I just said.)
