ACES! Another post by Elvish Crack Piper:
I thought that a magazine was what it was called when it was in storage, and a clip when in the gun. People can hit a ship or tanks magazine, but on the infantry its referred to as a clip isnt it?
That's what I thought. Ammo not in the gun is a magazine, ammo in the gun is a clip. In Deus Ex you can't increase the maximum number of magazines you can carry, but you can increase clip size (and therefore overall number of rounds).

Oh yeah, almost forgot. This might make some of you happy:"You can buy any pistol with the shield."
Shield + Deagle = PWN
OH MY FUCKING GOD.
YES.

D wrote this stupid crap:
A clip is an internal magazine that you load either by hand or with a stripper clip, depending on the gun.
No, you fucking retard. How many times have I told you not to try to explain the difference between a clip and a magazine?
Lee Ermey demonstrated it excellently with a paperclip and a copy of Vogue. "The clip goes in the magazine, but the magazine doesn't go in the clip." Still confused?
Alright. The magazine is what feeds the gun. It can be entirely internal (as is the case with the M1 Garand and most older rifles), or can be detatchable (I.E. an M16 magazine.) The magazine, simplified, is basically a metal box with a spring that feeds cartridges up into the gun.
Now, a clip. The clip holds the rounds together for easy insertion into the magazine, be it internal or detatchable: the term "stripper clips" simply describes the way most clips function. One strips the rounds from the clip into the magazine.
"But wait," you ask, "what about the M1 Garand?" The M1 Garand is also a clip fed weapon. Unlike a stripper clip, the en-bloc clip used by the M1 Garand feeds DIRECTLY into the magazine (in other words, the clip goes in the magazine.) Then, when the magazine is empty, the clip is ejected. This is the cause of the metallic ringing heard in movies when a rifleman fires off his 8 rounds.
Tomorrow, if you're lucky, I may explain the difference between a lower and an upper reciever!
And, technically, in Deus Ex what you're increasing is Magazine Capacity, not Clip Size. Most people use the terms interchangeably, but in shooting circles, it's a major faux pas.
At least if they're as anal as I am. [ 12-22-2002: Message edited by: Someone Else ]
Go smash your fucking finger again.
Garand thumb is a common shooter's injury.
In other words, go blow a donkey, ass.
Wanglapper.
