founders is more like <300-400, as the boards grew very slowly for a long time (this isn't selfish elitism or anything, trust me, they did), until The Great Reckoning when many, many faceless newbies began joining the boards causing havoc (most of them were fine, though). i mean, like, multiple people a day, every day, and it got pretty crazy. most of them posted a few times and left their account to dust, and they shot the member number way, way up.
but either way, it's all about your personality on the boards and how well you fit in personally...i see some people who have been around awhile as newbies, some as old-school and a cornerstone of the boards and irreplacable on merely how they act.

Every 1000 members or so, posters fit into a somewhat specific category.1001-2000: Old skool- Though not as long a history as the Founders, these are among the most well-established, popular members of the boards. Some are lurkers, others misfits, but mainly tolerated on the boards to a great degree. Ex: Myself, Bajah, Densetsu, Sentow, Parcelan, Mightion, Synjari.

I suppose I would fall into this list. I'm fairly well established but not well known. Well, ok, probably nobody really knows who I am other than this guy who posts now and then and I would suppose that where I'm not loved, cherished, or a valued member nobody has gone out of their way to say they hate me yet . I happened upon EC quite by accident, nobody from my guild came here, nobody showed it to me so I guess that puts me at a slight disadvantage in terms of getting acquainted with people. Not to mention the fact that I'm THE ONLY FUCKING ONE WHO PLAYS ON THE NAMELESS! hehe.
Nonetheless I'd like to think I've at least made a little impression in the year and a half I've been here.

i think i clicked the /gu link from way back when and stared at the page saying the strip was on vacation and would be back "soon"* for like a month before i noticed the link to the forums.
oyes.

As you said, it was theory..
When I came to the board it was a tight community, with Cernus and Pips and Geeorn and Ocy's Bar, Jaggedpine, Fae, Mystiana, Hireko and Jete, lots of roleplay, and the threads hardly got past page 2.
Drysart had a fan art contest, which was incredible.
They were a bunch of friends. It was easy back then to read every thread, because there weren't 79 pages of them.
The comic was funny, and Drys was showing everyone the t-shirt he designed for Abashi.. (I was at the Fan Faire when he presented it, and I laughed so hard! but I was too shy to introduce myself to Drys)
When he came back is when I finally came out of my shell and said something on the boards. I think my first post was somthing like "I was there, it was great!" or something equally dumb.
However, I got mono, so I only started posting soon enough to be considered old sk00l, I think....
What do you guys think?

Ditto. Although I like my new lucky 777 number.
.. and why the hell do people keep thinking Khyron's a founder/old skool? He's a n00b. He doesn't deserve to be in that list. Why am I always left out of examples? Do you hate me, Azrael? I post just as most, if not more, then all of the founders.
Blah.

Hell he used to chase me. Now he just runs away.
This isn't the same boards it used to be, some of us aren't the same people we used to be. Some of us made account mistakes, etc etc. I think Geeorn, Sar, Jagged, and myself were at one point like members 5-10, then Jete came and soon after a few others. The boards were fugly, and a real mess.
I at one point left and came back, boards had changed, made a new account etc etc. Some of the others have done the same. Personality is really the only dominant factor. Even some of the old schoolers act like newbies, and visa versa. So really no fair way to gauge anything.
or was that a dream?

I think they were at some point. Not sure.

I've always thought of myself as a 'visitor'upo, though. I mainly just lurkupo and dart in to post on a thread or two before leaving.
And sometimes I visit the chatroom.

The old boards were a very different thing. It was kind of scary to post, newbie hazing was really harsh, but once you got accepted by the group it was great. Half the threads were RP threads, and everyone knew each other's roleplaying 'schtick' as it were.
Cernus, Pip, Solstyc, Ocy, Geeorn, Jagged - those are the people I'd pen as Founders personally (mostly because they were all around and had a rappoport before I was here).
Then people like me, Kinanik, Suddar showed up one at a time. The boards were quiet, we RPed a lot, we discussed the greatness of each week's strip.
At some point I left for a month or a month and a half and when I came back the top member number had gone from 500ish to 2000! The board was cluttered by all sorts of people I didn't know at all, and I started a very long lurk.
Over 2 years on the boards now, member number 213, and I only post in spurts now. The board is too big for me, hehe.
But if Ocy's Bar ever re-opens, I'm the first guy who will take the "End of the World As We Know it" and Viscious Mana challenge!
That's it.
