I'm on Mid/Guin and Mid/Iseult - although I might vape my Middie on Guin and join the evil tinhead empire

Hmmm...

Perhaps a Midgard warrior then

I dunno. Paladin I wanna play, since healing magic + all armor + most weapons is VERY tempting, but if most of my friends are Midgard I'll head there.

Don't they have, like, NO ranged attacks?

I wouldn't pick a midgard warrior as your first class Khy - they might own in PvE, but in RvR, you better be sure you have a good group with you

I dunno, Warriors in general are pretty pimp, but 0.0 ranged attack. Unless you spec thrown hammers/axes/whatever but that's a pretty good way into gimping your char in a hurry.

skald isn't a bad choice for your first char. They have speed and dmg add as well as some healing and snaring and mezing

they aren't super fragile and aren't really limited. Overall a fun class in rvr.

Friend of mine here at work is suggesting a berserker for the damage. I don't want to be a troll (Yeah, I know, stupid RP'ers like me giving up on the brute strength for the Norseman) but I do like the thought of the option of dual weild and stuff

Bad choice for a first character?

Lemme see, for Alb/Palomides I have a 50 arms. For Alb/Pendragon I have a 50 arms and 43 arms. For Hib/Guin I have a 31 enchanter.

In my opinion, going Midgard on *most* servers is a bad choice for your first character, as most servers have a small Midgard population. If you were to be a Midgard melee I'd recommend a skald, the warrior and thane suck in RvR and berserker is only ok.

And paladins are no longer the gimp of the world once 1.53 hits. End regen is a *huge* boon to the class, and will help their RvR abilities a ton. They're definitely going to give every other melee a run for their money.

FRUITS, ALL OF THEM, THOSE HIBERNIANS ARE WEIRD LITTLE PEOPLE AND I WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM!

Well, I am calling them all fruits based upon the # of hibernians I have met, which is 1 (Lenalron), and he's the biggest fruit of them all.

Hey, I have one Hibbie alt too. Hibernia is oddly fun, but only if you have an alt there. Nice place to visit, but wouldn't wanna live there and stuff.

Zerkers are fun. The gerbil form is a riot. (I say that, my zerker is only 7 =P)

However, no one ever complains when a zerker is available to finish out a group. They do insane damage.

Well consider the impact on RVR if you could:

People want to play on the winning team. People get bonuses for playing on the winning team.

The easiest way to do this is to make or have a character on the winning team already. The hard way to do it is to actually organize, fight, and make a winning team through RVR.

If people could do it the easy way without sacrificing all thier characters, why would anyone do it the hard way?

Everybody would swarm to the winning realms. Anyone even remotely interested in actually fighting back would become vastly outnumbered due to the huge volume of defectors.

Maradon, that already happens to an extent. Look at servers where one realm, aka the zerg realm, VASTLY outnumbers the other two realms. People go and join the winning teams on these servers so they can be uber too.

The real reason has to do with crossteaming. Allowing persons to play in multiple realms on one server would make spying incredibly easy. Every once in awhile log on to the other realm and do a /who to check where people are. This already happens to an extent with secondary accounts and has really hurt the ability to raid for a couple realms on some servers.

Maradon!
posted 09-23-2002 10:14:00 AM
That's true, too, but the problem of a "zerg realm" is limited by the fact as well.

Would you delete a 40+ character JUST because your realm was losing? Or would you rather fight for your realm with your 40 character and hopefully stem the tide?

Without distinct realm affiliation, RVR becomes completely meaningless.

Me? Nah, I'd probably take the approach most people do out quit the character and go to another server, which is what most people seem to do. I know a good number of people who have deleted their level 50 characters just to start in another realm on that server though.

Khy, I'd offer for ya to come to Alb/Palomides where I'd set ya up with cash and a guild, but I don't play there as much these days.

Maradon!
posted 09-23-2002 10:54:56 AM
A level 50 character whose done everything that character will ever be able to do is a different story.

A character you've invested large amounts of time in and haven't developed fully?

And if the realm you've deleted your character off of suddenly becomes the dominant realm, what then? Whups, you're fucked.

Wouldn't be so if multi-realm characters were allowed.

The big deal behind no multi-realming is to prevent 'spies'. Although intriguing, it's really hard to do and kinda silly.

Talk to CBTao about paladins. His is level 38 or something.

They're actually pretty impressive under the right circumstances.

Group regen, group armor, group attack, etc. I don't know EXACTLY what spells they get, only what I'm told

yeah. paladins get a skill that gives them a block check when anyone in thier group gets hit.

So six paladins grouped will have thier own block checks, plus the block checks of five other paladins.

They're veritably immune to melee.

pwnage

Of course, casters can still mop the floor, but then with the new armor that gets enchanted or whatever that people have been talking about, Paladins could potentially rock the field

BTW, I played a bit last night... Bajah helped me PL a bit to level 4, and I got my first rare drop, an Oiled Leather Belt that increased my Dex by 1
