There was much rejoicing when Kermitov said this:
When you're marching 49 you'd better be the cleanest thing the judges ever see because they see it all.
Hell, they saw it all in 180
I can't imagine what 49 would be.
The sucky part is that we were put up against schools that had 300+ in their bands because of school size. I always thought average band size should be taken into consideration. Most bands our size were in the B Class, and we might have actually had a chance at winning competitions if we were put against comparable schools.

From the book of Naimah, chapter 3, verse 16:
We do multigates, diamonds, triangles, and all the other block trixies. Brass pretty much never go further back then 8 behind front hash.
...
That must really suck. Some of our greatest moments were when things were quiet, then BOOM, the brass come marching out of nowhere and get things going again!
One of the best was having brass come marching in from the sides farther back than the woodwinds were. Really gets your heart pumping when all that noise just shouts out at you from a direction you don't expect, because we were either playing very very quietly or not at all.

In off season, they got more into things, and had their own competitions. Ours was one of the best in the nation when I was in school, IIRC.
They ended up doing better in their competitions than we did together as a band. We were all proud of their good work. Nice bunch of girls.

Naimah's unholy Backstreet Boys obsession manifested in:
We are marching cartoons this year; Jhonny Quest, Jetsons, Pink Panther, George of the Jungle, and Flintstones, so it is pretty much a brass dominant sound. Although we do have an oboe solo to get that whole apropiate use of woodwinds out of the way.
Sounds really neat. My favorite was my sophomore year when we did a whole Russian themed show. The music was awesome.
I didn't enjoy the show as much my junior year as drum major, maybe because I wasn't out there in the thick of things. And senior year's show was just odd.
I wasn't in freshman year's show. By the time I got to my HS, transferring from another, it was almost time for district band competition. And the marching band in my previous school didn't do competitions, just football games.
