Topic: I find this disgusting...

Y'know, it's the damnedest thing with me...

I have no problem killing whatsoever. I can hunt with the best of them, and I can defend myself without any thought whatsoever of pulling a punch because of the damage it might do.

But when it comes to dead bodies, I freak out... I can't handle dissections, and I can barely handle carrying a kill back to the hunting party to dress out in the field. Don't even think about asking me to do that. As for Dissections? Well, I was always the person who took the notes. I can look at the bodies just fine... I just can't touch them.

I'm sure there's some psychological term for that...

That depends. Are you also a vegetarian?

The reason why I think it's digusting because of the facts:

1. The thought of the abortion. (I'm a Catholic child and Christians are against abortions)

2. It's very sad to see it. (Seeing how small and how precious it is)

3. I never enjoyed seeing or the thought of dead bodies. (I've been through 3 funerals in the past 1 1/2 years of my very close relatives, but my grandfather has been through 8 in those past 1 1/2 years, and my parents have also been to more than I have in those past 1 1/2 years.)

If you people have problems with the way I think then I'm sorry but I just don't enjoy it. I do like skulls though, but it's just very sad and possibly disturbing to see. It's like how people are vegetarians. They don't eat meat because of the thought of the animal being killed. They know it's part of the food chain but it's the thought that scars them.

The question is now: Does anyone get my point?

Now in Biology I disected: Star fish, worm, crayfish, frog, (I had a lot of fun with that. ) clam, and a fish all in one year. I did see a pig already cut open with the intestines sticking out. They looked like a brain, it was pretty neat.

Your viewpoint is completely valid, Alleria. I just don't share it, is all.

All we ever dissected was the traditional Fish, and a frog. Boring shit. California sucked though anyway. At least the schools sucked.

We used to sell plastic gloves and small bottles of air freshener when it was dissection time...

I have dissected a cow's eyeball, three hearts, a kidney, a liver, and a rodent of some description.

Me? Not a chance! I can even watch an animal get slaughtered, then eat it. I have no idea why it's the body itself that gives me a wiggins...

If not me, then disregard.

Well, that's one way to stop it from clawing the furniture...

Humor disclaimer.

We did the dissecting thing too in high school - we did cow eyes, earthworms, grasshoppers, frogs, and the fetal pigs.

The fetal pigs made me sad, though. Or maybe it was the formaldehyde....

Yes Alleria, I share your opinion.

When my son was born he had serious troubles, in fact he died twice and had to be brought back. He spent a month in the Intensive care unit and I saw many, many little tiny one pound babies that were so small and helpless. Seeing a skull of an infant reminds me of that hard time in our life.

It makes me sad.

In my opinion people are desensitized these days. I see nothing wrong with feeling something when you see that skull, it makes you human.

Those of you that don't feel sadness or pain just share a different mentality towards death. It's not wrong, it is what makes you uniquely you.

In elementary school we got to "play" with a cow's stomach and heart. (It was brought in by some outsider and we learned about it and got to pick them up and stuff. The heart was really darn big and even more surprising was I was able to pick it up holding just one artieral vein. STRONG vein!)

In high school, we dissected worms and then frogs. Boy, was it fun grossing everyone out by wandering around with my frog, pressing on the sides of his mouth to make it move. /snicker

The advanced bio class dissected cats, which is why I didn't push enough in regular bio to be able to take advanced bio the next year. /shudder

If I could get my hands on a human skull or skeleton, I would.

Someone from my college (apparently my photography tutor, but don't quote me on it.) aquired a human skeleton some years ago on his travels. We still have it (her) in the life drawing room. People on the other campus across town apparently would love to have something like that to draw from, but they would cost a fortune nowdays.

It's quite cool, Apparently It's a woman from China who donated her body. I can't remember her name though.
