The GeForce3 did hit Macs a tad before they hit PCs.. like a couple weeks.
The GeForce4 Ti (since the MX doesn't count... it's just a GF2 core modded a little) hit the PC and Mac at the same time. One could argue the PC first based ona availability to the average consumer though.

Even the current MacOS drivers/OpenGL do not cover the feature set of the GF3, let alone the GF4. I hear you can't even do shaders! So a GF3 or GF4 on a mac are basically just a fast GF2.

I think that speaks for itself on which avenue for game development a company should focus on. This isn't to say that making games for Macs isn't profitable, but it is a niche.
If VI is going to develop EQ for the Mac, I'd see it as more of a method of exploring the waters to see if it is one, possible, and two, profitable. I see just the basic game, no expansions, being done before anything else.
Of course they could just be intending to move the entire game to a JAVA platform, bahahahahahahaha. =)
